consider concealment over fortification. Think false wall, hidden cellar, stuff like that. Most thieves carry sawz-alls and cordless grinders, so any locks will amount to a mere inconvenience. You can't steal what you can't find however. Does anyone really look in the outhouse or toilet tank when they're tossing a place? But also keep in mind most thieves have insider knowledge if you catch my drift. Good advice is to store what you don't mind losing. Most people aren't going to break in to steal food and water. At least not until things get ugly. You don't want enough provisions that would be raiders set up camp at your cabin, making yourself vulnerable to them intercepting you on your way there. I wouldn't be leaving behind any NFA stuff, or much guns and ammo either. You can always bring that stuff with you. I helped a few older couples move in my day, they were quite creative in finding ways to hide cash in furniture. Never underestimate your own ingenuity.
