Hope you have a good surgeon. I had a great one when I fucked up the ball in my shoulder (shattered it) and broke the humerus in a few spots.

I feel your pain. I had the ball of my femur crushed in a car accident. Just over twenty years later and there are times I can barely walk. A hip replacement is in the near future.

Getting old sucks!! I've noticed some of the same issues and forcing myself to push harder but I will be more cautious now.
Get well soon.

ETA My hearing sucks and my eyesight isn't as sharp so I have had 2 close calls with rattle snakes this year. I'm down right paranoid on walks now.

Well, it didn't kill you...it should make you stronger  Jokes aside, you're fortunate as it could have been more serious...downhill tumbles are never a good thing.  Glad to hear you were able to self-evac and prayers that your surgery goes well.  While getting old sucks, falling down the side of a hill makes it suck much more!

I hope you heal well.  I'm curious about your balance issues, is it more from age and muscle weakness or do you feel like your innner ear is a little off.

Get well soon, just know your limits.

It serves as a good lesson.

When all is well(ish) in the world, a simple accident can cause a lot of pain and difficulty.

If one were in a survival type situation of any number of types, a broken shoulder (or really just about any other debilitating injury) could be a much worse scenario.

Good that you won't need surgery, at least.

Geeze
Sorry to hear it OP.
Glad it wasn't worse for you .

I guess make sure our communication device is secured and stored on us good and let someone know where we're going and when we'll get back.
Note to self.

Prayers for your speedy recovery.

Update?

I too got really sick and ended up in the ER for 5 days, yeah no fun. After I came home, I was unable to ride a bicycle, I would tip over. So now I just do all my hiking at the local shopping mall and admire the scenery(ie pretty girls). I have to hang up my Danner Mountain Light hiking boots which I spent a princely sum on.

Sucks. Going solo is fun but its also far more risky. Somoene really should know when youre expected back and the area youre going to.
I used to leave my mom (and then my wife ) a map with the intended route.
They didnt understand much of it but I would tell them if I'm not back by certain date, just give to to whomever goes looking for me.

Get a Moses/Gandalf style walking stick.  My balance is fine but because the dirt can be loose, I use one.
