Archery starts October 3 in the county I hunt in. Not a big archer though, so I'll wait on general season to start a month later. Headed to my lease weekend after this coming one to top off feeders, check cameras, and give everything a good once over before season starts

Same in Georgia. Too hot, muggy, and deer flies are awful.
Been dove hunting until it gets a tad cooler. After Sally, maybe.

Urban archery opened in Va on the 5th.

Way too hot to hunt.  Not to mention the swarms of mosquitoes.

Sept 26th is opening day for archery here.

Nov 30 - dec 6 for gun season.

I'm probably going to hunt public a bit, especially since it's very close, right across the street. There's 60 acres of private woods we're setup in too, but it's a half hour away. Generally, if I don't care about sportsmanship, I can setup right on the no hunting line about 45 minutes before full dark, and bag a deer pretty easy once they cross the line. Not going to pull a trophy that way, but it'll fill the freezer.

I'll hunt private with the wife a couple times, she'll bring a 22 for squirrel. Mostly want to save that piece for gun season, we want her to get her first deer this year. Maybe even get a double.

I may also hunt other areas of that 60ac to keep the pressure off where our stand is. There's not much other bedding area around since it's all corn, most of which has been chopped.

Hoping next year to sweet talk the land owner into letting me hunt the 30ac that nobody is allowed to access besides his daughter, since she is only a gun/ML hunter, namely just to fill freezers. I'm confident the big bucks are hiding in there. These two lots are basically the only woods for miles of corn.

South Dakota archery season has been open for almost 2 weeks.  Have seen some nice bucks including some in velvet taken so far.  Also finding out just how bad EHD hit the deer this summer now that more guys are out scouting, checking cameras, and hunting.

She hit further back than she wanted...I had the rest set up on the wrong side of the blind so she used the window. Went right through and cut the liver into 3 pieces. Deer was down in 30 yards.

ETA-considering it's basically a hottodded handgun round I was impressed. Same rifle did well for her last year.

Not my picture to share, but my wife's coworker has a niece who went out for her first youth season. Got a buck that scored 181 2/8. Poor kid's not going to top that without getting an elk.

But good for her. She'll be hooked.

No jelly?

I'm hoping for good results out of the .355 165gr FTX @ 2150. Hoping to see it jelly the vitals and make at least a .45 exit.

I've had 9x19 and 45acp jelly flesh, so no reason this shouldn't.

I'll tell ya, a heart that has been split open and tenderized by a .45 is delicious!

There was some jelly action happening too, yes. Exit was probably in the .45 range, if not .50. Would have loved to have found the bullet to check expansion. Overall, it's a great load for a small-statured youth hunter. I'd like to get her shooting a larger round for deer, but she's two for two now(2 deer in 2 years), and both went down within sight. If she doesn't move up, she's got something that works!

.355, 165 grain? Must be a .350 Legend? That's what I'd have if I'd been just a little slower with my .357 build. Winchester announced the caliber three days after I prepped $90 worth of Starline brass.

ETA-Just put in my daughter's order at the locker. They were closed when we dropped the deer off Sunday, and have an after hours walk in cooler for deer brought in while closed-today was the first we had time to go back while open.

It's looking like we'll have a good deer season. Two very nice youth season bucks have come in, including a 12 point that should score close to 165-shot by a 5 year old boy using a tripod rest. The look on the kid's face in the photo is priceless.

Nice one. Our bow season opens Thursday. Tentative plans are for a former coworker of mine to be in the woods with me. If things work out, the first shot is hers. Old friend and she's missed out the past two years.

I'm debating to go out in the morning. If I go to public land, I'm about guaranteed to bag one. Freezer is pretty full. They're pretty dumb right now. Could've connected on at least 3 between the last 4 trips squirrel hunting, but they can sense when you have #4s or a .22, instead of a big gun or bow.

Don't want to over hunt the private land. Got a nice doe patterning there that I want the wife to connect on during gun season. Has 3 fawns with her. We do want to see the babies for camera-shooting. There's 2 nice bucks that stopped by my camera once. Something spooked them off. I think they're hanging around other parts of the property.

Eta: yes, 350Legend. Sweet pistol now that I got the bugs worked out.

Hunted  last weekend in MO for the opener.  Beautiful crisp mornings.  Saw 6 deer on Sunday and passed on a momma doe with her two fawns.

As many yotes as we have around I'd of killed 3 deer by taking her.

I did get to bring something home though in the way of about 60 chigger bites.   I must of waded right through a mess of them and pre spray apparently didn't work out so well...

Mosquitos were getting thick after the morning warm up too.  I love hunting but screw chiggers and mosquitos

Got a .450 Bushmaster too, but she's recoil shy. Definitely not putting her behind that one.

ETA-and I posted the wrong bullet. It was a 200 grain Hornady Interlock, not an XTP.

Bow season's been in for a week or two here. I'll be going out in the next couple days and hunting nearly every day into the muzzleloader season in January. That's unless I get a good shot at a buck scoring over 150. In any case I'll fill the freezer with does because venison is the only red meat we eat.

General rifle season starts Sat closest to Oct. 25 and ends Sunday after Thanksgiving. I got 2 whitetail does a fat yearling early and a mature late season. Can't climb hills like when I was a youngster. Both killed on her flat ground wit my 110 year old Husquvarna M96 with 140 yr. Hornaday spire points. One at 30 yards one at 300. Season done till next year.

Shot a nice 8 point Sunday, day 2 of gun season. The locker's walk-in cooler was already filling up.
Went back Tuesday to pick up the head(keeping the skull) and the room was full, hide upon hide laying outside from déer that were already cut up.

Taxidermist what looked like 150-200 racks waiting their turn to be mounted, and gun season deer have just started coming in. Some real monsters in the mix too. Lots of people had a good year.
