Richard from MTC has been saying it for months now, even the Ham Radio market isn't immune to FCovid.

If there is something you're looking for, and have the funds-you may want to move on it. There are some things on indefinite backorder and some that may never come back.

Most of the bigger stores aren't saying much about the potential doom so YMMV.

ex:
As you know many products have been discontinued this year. With Covid 19 impacting Global supply chains, parts and even raw materials things are really messed up. The Daiwa SS-330W is one of the products that have now been discontinued.

FWIW

Gigaparts & MTC are already in Black Friday mode.

ETA: Not talking Baofengs here, more of Big 3 and higher tier gear in general.

I'm lucky, I like things nobody else likes, I'm all set.

IC-7300, Nope, I like the IC-718, half the price, way less complicated.
Kenwood DM-710, nope I have TM-281s, you can get 4 of them for the price of a 710!
One will QSO on 2m about the same as the other.
One of mine I got for $99 at MTC this year.

Like the things nobody else likes, like the things that aren't in demand, and you will never be disappointed.
Also be versatile, there will always be an alternative product.

I would think if those items really were less in demand, they'd be first on the chopping block. I'm betting people just talk about the high-dollar ones more. I was looking at some videos today comparing monoband mobiles from the big 3, to have an easy rig to swap between vehicles.

I want a new IC-7610. Should I FO?

On the other note. A friend is looking for a new IC-7300. Cheapest one now is $999 after rebates. Anyone seen them on sale for $899 lately, like they used to be?

I can confirm, the bigger stores are feeling the pain with low/no stock.

Its really a wonder how the supply chain has lasted this long sales have been 2-4x what they normally are, and have been that way since april.

Had a chat with the manager of the local HRO about this on the phone just a couple weeks ago.

I'd ordered parts for the vertical install at the new place and cable wasn't a problem but lightning protectors were.

He said they basically have put in orders for everything and it's random what's getting filled v. not, some stuff has a 4-6 month backlog,
and went the ordered do get filled getting a partial fill is common. It sounded like it was a bigger issue for stuff out of Japan
than elsewhere.

I ordered a bunch of crimp connectors from a different supplier (rfparts), my first order got filled in 24 hours, the second (for a lot more)
took more than two weeks, ordered were just a few days apart. The stocks are running really lean right now.

True Ladder Line/W7FG has ceased shipping due to supply shortages.

....so I went to Menards, picked up a spool of 14ga wire, and some 1/2" irrigation pipe. Problem solved....added ~20 feet of feedline to my doublet.

Check with Joel next time. You have to order by phone, email or fax he's old school. He's got stock and ships right after you order.
I get all my cabling and connectors from him, his standard fedex ground gets to me next day as a bonus.

Some good manufacturer rebates. Icom 7100 is $755 before tax and after rebates until the end of year, as an example. Very impressed with the capability and performance of the radio so far at that price.

From retailers, probably not so much. Gigaparts offered a $10 of $500 purchase code after I bought the 7100...

$729 after Mail in Rebate last year, so $755.00 is not too bad.

I'm GTG with ham gear.

as soon as Yaesu, Icom, or Kenwood start making primers, I'll spend more money.

That is pretty good. Checking the gigparts receipt; it was $1 more, but with free shipping.

I have not been active in this hobby since 2013 or so and just started up again, but it seems we are in the "salad days" compared to then. The same models (if still in production....like 718 mentioned above) are even cheaper, and those with even more capability from the 'big 3' are more aggressively discounted now. On top of that, there is a flood of increasingly higher quality and more diverse radios of all kinds coming out of the PRC.

I can definitely agree with the OP.

Ordered a Kenwood that I was going to use as a mobile radio. Was in stock at the time then HRO said, it's on back order and should ship "soon". Weeks later I just cancelled the order.

The "Panny" wins again....

I was looking for a duplexer for the radios in my car at the Montgomery (Alabama) hamfest last weekend.

The vendor there that had equipment like that told me that the VHF/UHF duplexers he sells have been on back order for most of this year, with no ETA when they will have them in stock.  They are made in Taiwan, and Covid has disrupted the supply chains.

Always check the swap.qth.com for duplexers.

I paid $399.00 in 2018 and thought that was a deal back then. Today's sale prices are more like MSRP.

The radio I bought in this thread (https://www.ar15.com/forums/Outdoors/Help-with-a-Digital-VHF-set-up-ID-4100/22-698628/) was mostly due to no stock.  I was going to get a Yaesu FTM-7250 as a simple dual band rig that would allow me to take advantage of the new fusion repeater the club put in last fall and that is only a few miles away.  As I was going through my list of things to buy it went OOS  The single band icom 2M radios were OOS everywhere (although Richard has them back in stock as of yesterday at MTC), so, as of last evening, I have a ID-4100 in my shack.  I'm waiting on the signal link to show up and I will be ready for VHF fldigi. Interestingly enough the jumper I needed for the signal link was OOS with no backorder at Gigaparts, but was On Sale at Tigertronics. Okay, so, multiple orders later I have everything on the way.  It just has to get here.

Edit: grammar

I sold my '7300  in August for 800.
They sell about once a week on QRZed usually for 800.
One went for 775 last week.
