Yeah, probably south america, unfortunately good prop means we hear them too.

When I checked before the net 7114 was still better than 7120.

My daughter (9yo) has taken over my callsign for our clubs 2m net and now she's eying the Olivia net. Loves to read and write. She likes to compose her message before the net vs having to think on her feet about what's she's saying, even on the voice net she jots down notes in her journal.

She's not alone, I was at a loss for words when her message came through!

It was a great net tonight. Propagation was very good, copied everyone 100% and signal strengths greatly improved over earlier this year.

I had six stations include a new station.

Hope to see everyone again next week!

Pre-net I had everybody but lost IL and the other VA station.

I had some strange interference tonight, after the voices.

I should be able to NC tonight. Note that next week, 11/17, I won't be able so we'll need a volunteer for that.

Also for December/January I won't have much use of my right arm due to rotator cuff surgery, so we'll
probably need an extended NC volunteer or a rotation, I don't think I'll be able to keep up with the net
with just my non-dominant hand.

Can you confirm the net time now we aren't on daylight savings time any more

Oh good point. We don't we move it an hour with the change? Is 8PM that 0100Z now?

IIRC the zulu time stayed the same and it moved up an hour (since NCS isn't doesn't have DST), but I personally would prefer to keep it at 2000est so when I'm net controlling I can send net warnings. I can't be in the shack prior to 1900 and sometimes that's a stretch. I don't know if there are other opinions since the net crosses several time zones.

I can NC on 11/17.

I won't be on air 12/15 or 1/5. Possibly off air on 12/29, I'll know closer to date. The rest of Dec and Jan I'm pretty much available to NC if needed.

My only concern would be how 40m will be an hour later than what we've been doing.

It will likely be better except for gray line enhancement. Prop is what it is anyway.

I changed the time to keep 2000ET, so the net is now 0100Z.

[Last Edit: Nmbmxer] [#17]
I'm fine with 1900est too. We can see how it goes the next week or two, it's helpful to send SNR's back on the net warnings so we can get a feel if prop is getting better or worse.

I have no idea what my holiday schedule is like but I'm sure I can cover the other days even if it means operating portable, mobile or remotely.

[#18]
Let's keep it at 2000ET tonight, and if it's terrible we can move it to 1900ET next time.

When I'm not NC in December I'll attempt to check in if I can. I doubt I'll be able the first week,
I've been warned I'll barely be able to function the first few days.

7114 or 7120 tonight?

I can't always be in front of it but I like to get the radio up and listening to catch warnings and pre-net traffic if I can.

7114 unless it's got QRM. Lately I've checked an hour before the net and pick whichever is quieter.
Link Posted: 11/10/2021 7:48:48 PM EDT
[#21]
I'm seeing QRM on 7114 so tonight's net is on 7120 KHz.

That's 7120 KHz

Will start the countdown at 0000Z.

Band is dead here. I had no copy on any one except weaponeer1911 and NCS. NCS was in the mud, the noise and his TX has similar SNR...
Link Posted: 11/10/2021 9:31:48 PM EDT

All I heard was NC and a small snippet of weaponeer's report. Probably a good thing my settings were borked during check ins because I was sending blind.

Nice net. Conditions a bit rougher than prior nets, I'm not sure how much of
that is the time v. propagation just being different.

Five stations tonight plus NC.

I heard NC just fine tonight. I had no clue that anyone else was participating other than NC calling them. My WF was completely dead except for NC.

Disadvantages:

you are on the ground and wind and movement are everything. So is noise. It takes more discipline that being in a tree.
You really can not move unless the deer's head is behind something at least at bow ranges for me in the thickets which is inside 30 yards
I have had deer come in behind me a lot, direction is everything unlike in a tree. you really need to study the terrain and sign and figure out which way they will come in, and even then they come in from behind.

Then you need all that to come together. It is definately more challenging than being in a tree.

Advantages:

you don't need a tree
you can scout and be set up in 60 seconds having never set foot in that area before
you can preset spots by cutting shooting lanes if you want, but if you arent in thick underbrush, you don't have to
You can move locations a lot based on the sign changing during the season with little noise and setup
You can pattern other hunters based on where their stands are, believe it or not I have seen stands create choke points as the deer move to avoid them
You can hunt during the bow season in the area where a gun hunter has a stand
You can hunt areas during the week by other people's stands
On public ground you leave nothing to be stolen or cut down
Nobody will know you were there
You can hunt places that are slightly questionable like behind houses ( at least with a bow )
you can hunt in the middle of a field.
Inside of 10 yards they may notice something is not quite right, but they won't know what it is. outside of about 10 yards they will not see you if you don't move
Were you put it matters. If you break up a downed tree by setting up in front of it, a 12 point monster will notice ( personal experience )
You need a seat that you can just barely shoot over the blind. You don't want to have to stand up. you have to shoot sitting down and with a bow may take some practice.

The biggest advantage is flexibility and changing location but you pay for it with the disadvantages. Deer come in and they see or wind you when if you had been in a tree they would not know you were there.

I like it, but i have lost deer opportunities because I was not in a tree. But when i have connected it has been very satisfying because you are on the ground with them and it is an extra challenge.

Hope this helps. Any questions just ask

Hey, thx for the reply dude....been busy.

I hunt almost exclusivly from the ground now (though I'm seriously thinking of getting a saddle) so that's why I was considering one.  Just seems kinda bluky, but I can see the real advantages.  Picked up an Xbow, so I'm out with that this year, which increases range.

Never did hear much, I probably doubled with somebody and when there was traffic nothing printed, my squelch was way high. My 7300 has to go to the shop, the USB is hosed AFSIK,  I'm running the KX3 with a small amp, the setup is different.

I won't be at the home station today, will be at my inlaws and won't have a radio with me. I'm going to attempt to VNC into my station and check in/out. I'm going to try and get audio over a websdr since I can't get audio over the free VNCViewer. I can usually hear another station better than I can see them on the waterfall and I hate stepping on any one.

NMBMXER suggested moving back to 0000Z and I think I agree, the band is just too weak at 0100Z.

Great net other than prop, had four stations, and pre-net we had a drop-in notice us.

Enjoy the turkey everyone!

As a reminder, I won't be able to NC next week and probably the week after, I'm getting
surgery and will be down one hand and am supposed to be heavily drugged for at least
a few days and none of those are conducive to good NC ops.

You were +2dB and 100% to me. Everyone was in the mud, you were the only station to break into S1 on the meter tonight during the net.

Pre-net a couple of you were booming in.

I was operating mobile from my truck.

I dont know how much power I was using because of the FT-891 settings.

50 HF
50 Data
50 SSB

I dont know if i was putting out 50 watts or if those are % and they compound

everybody I heard was ghost print and lots of QSB
