Not sure if anyone else has had the same problem, but my local Costco has not had the Kirkland canned roast beef available for the last several years. It seemed the only way to get it, if at all, was to order it online from Costco. Found this endcap at Costco today:

Took it back to the house, fried it up with some onions, served over rice, and....very yummy. Nice and tender. Recommend.

How much water in that 12oz can?   Thats been my question as I start ramping up on stuff.  Trying to find some dense packed stuff.

I was just in Costco today and I was looking for this, didn't find any.
Canned beef is the one thing I don't have in my preps.

I picked up some of the canned beef at the OPs Costco today.

Prior to that I've picked up the Hereford brand of canned beef at Winco, and that brand of canned beef is pretty good.

I've tried the Walmart store brand & it's almost worthless.

Have not seen that at my Costco stores before.  I'll look.  Need to make a trip anyway.

The stuff I just got is dated MAR2624.

However, I've had no issues with with my older Kirkland brand roast beef dated 2-4 yrs beyond s stamp date since my stuff is storaged cool & dark

The Costco's here only carry the Kirkland brand.  It is pretty good.  It is in beef broth instead of water.  It keeps for a long time.  2 weeks ago I ate a can that expired about 3 years ago.  It tasted just fine. No loss in flavor.

Having a pull-top lid on the can is BAD NEWS for storage life.

We hit our local Costco yesterday.   No canned beef of any kind. They had Kirkland canned chicken in stock, just no beef.

I have a bunch of cans from a few years ago. I have been reluctant to use them up because they never seen to have any in the warehouse. I'll have to take trip out there tomorrow and see if I can find some.

My daughter really likes it mixed with buttered noodles.

We found some at Costco.  We only bought one package to see if we like it.  Maybe try to add some onion as a previous poster said and serve it over rice.  We get the beef roasts in a bag/tray from time to time and they a good quick meal with spuds.

Nice to have another canned meat to add to the fish & chicken.

Where is it from?   I see what I assume is "Product of" but wonder if it's USA.

Why put it in bold letters if it's from elsewhere?

Lots. It is beef chunks in water. Not packed full like a can of tuna.

The flavor was only OK.  Texture a little more beef-like than some of the chunk tuna.

I was not impressed and won't be buying it again.  The chicken version is much better and I use those a lot.

It is easy pop off tops.  The only time I have had problems with those is odd shaped cans or rough handling (dropping the can).  I only rotate for a year or two though so at longer periods it may be an issue.

The canned beef (in stock) and chicken are not the best; however, they work quite well for the meat component for nacho's.  Add it to re-fried beans and you are a few levels over Taco Hell's food.

For more simple dishes with rice, I use a few drops of some good hot sauce to remove the 'canned' tasted.  For what it is I like to keep some on hand in the pantry.

I had the same question, but if you look at the op's photo, the box holding the shrink-wrapped cans appears to say Product of USA as best I can tell.  I can't confirm what is on the cans themselves, but to me, that's what it looks like the box says.

Another suggestion to look at keystone if sodium is a concern.   5% recommended daily sodium allowance per serving

Would boiling in a pot of water (and then straining) remove some of the sodium content?

From a cost standpoint either Keystone or freeze-dried would be more cost-effective, or even a chest freezer and a local farmer who sells quarters and halves.

It should. Remember in the days of sail, they salted pork and beef, but had to soak them in tubs of water before they could be cooked (I'm not clear if they were already cooked or not, back then). But I would think it would still have a good deal of salt in it.

They claim 6 servings per 12 ounce can!?  Lol.  I can easily see one person eating 12 ounces of meat, which would amount to 1740 mg of sodium.

well, I suppose that's one way to look at it, but I can say, we use them pretty regularly, and no one in this house has ever eaten a single can in a sitting. It's an ingredient, not a meal. For instance we will do rice with peppers and onions, then put some of the beef and gravy over the top, feeds 4 with no hangry left over in this house.
