So my IC-718's somehow killed my third CAT/PTT/Audio interface cable and I'm just ready to upgrade to something with a built in interface. I want a full power rig, otherwise I'd go with one of the new chinese radios... What would be a good replacement rig? I have wanted a IC-7200, however being discontinued for years I'm worried about longevity, plus like every other ham rig, price hasn't come down one iota. Any other recommendations?

The cheaper end of the full power rigs… If you want Icom… I’d go with the 7300 or Yaesu 991a.  Either use just one USB cable to do CAT, audio, etc.  No separate cables etc.  Most of the newer rigs on the market today give you the one usb cable control you’re looking for.

Any reason not to get a 7200 for the $800 they're going for now? Or are the new rigs worth the extra $500?

The 7200 has been discontinued for a bit, so are you looking at a used one?  The 7300 has the nice display with the waterfall and a built in tuner.  Plus it's just a much more modernized design overall.

IC-7300 is a great option, and they've been popular combined with being on the market long enough that you should be able to find one at a good value.

I know the answer is the 7300, but man, $1200 seems like alot for a radio to me... I know it isn't really, but still... Does Yaesu have an equivalent radio?

FT-991a would be the closest equivalent.  It also does 2M/440 and is about the same price of around $1,200.

You can get a new IC-7300 for $1,100. Zero reason not to to that route. It's the cat's meow for digital modes. Unless you can spring for a FTDX10...

7300's are $1,100 after mail in rebate. Yaesu FTDX10 is $1,400 now. Used to be $1,800, it's like the only thing in the world that's come down in price. It's a better receiver, but a little larger and heavier if you're doing portable.

I have both a 7200 and a 7300 and like them both, but the previous comments about the 7300 are correct, it’s light years ahead of the 7200, as much as I like that radio.

If you get a 7300, I can email you my configuration. All you will need is your SD card to go into the front of the rig. You will need one of those in any case to save your own parameters and to utilize the CW, SSB voice, and even RTTY memories.  Also if you like when you have had the rig for a bit and you have any questions, just contact me and I would be happy to talk with you to explain anything you don't understand.

The 7300 has the ability to have as many saved configurations as you want on your SD card or PC and to swap them out for another in seconds.

I have a 7100 and a 7300 and this is a good route to go if you don't want to spend 7300 money. The 7300 is clearly the better radio, but the cost reflects that and the 7100 meets the criteria in the OP.

Any of you worthless bums own an IC 7300 and live near this guy?

With the price of gas these days he's welcome to peddle his bicycle to my place and check one out.

ETA OP, about ten minutes after you get an IC 7300 up and running you will forget the difference in cost entirely. You'll KNOW you got a good deal.

They're not kidding OP...get the 7300.
