Buy something else if an air tight 64 ounce glass container is too expensive. Vacuum seal stuff in bags. It’s lighter and takes up less space than mason jars. |

They are out there , you just need to know where to look. We picked up 40-60 jars a month ago. Older thick glass jars. A Elderly man was selling off his wife's canning supplies. Look at the local groups for sale in your area and you will be surprised what you find. Lids are available also. We bought 4-5 boxes of brand new lids from the same person. Stores don't have the good heavy glass ones. Good luck and don't give up !!!
|
|
|
I see them at feed stores regularly. Wife has found them in target when she goes into the city. They are out there, we have probably 150-200 with 2 rotations of lids that we’ve picked up since Covid started.

|
My neighbor just brought over a half dozen that she didn't use anymore.
Maybe stop being unsociable, OP? Local ACE hardware seemed to have plenty. |

I have not spotted quart jars in a while, but I also don't look every time I'm there. Guess I need to start. I did manage to pick up a few packs of replacement lids for both regular and wide mouth jars. First time I've seen those since maybe last year? |

Last time I was at Costco they had Anchor-Hocking brand jars. I have plenty of jars but I bought a case just because they came with lids and bands. They sealed just fine.

It's a sample size of one, and it has been several months back, but a Wal mart neighborhood market here always had the quart and pint jars when no none else did. The normal wal mart stores have been keeping them in stock here lately, though.

I drove 20 minutes and picked up 2 cases of 1 quart ball jars.

That's funny, I have 2 cases of quarts and 3 cases of pints of both new Bell and Mason jars out in my shed right now, that I got a couple years back for my wife when she cans our fruits and veggies. Wife is pretty savvy also as she cleaned and sanitized some older jars my Mom had, and we also save back good jars/lids that look reusable from the store that canned products come in.
Just this year she was complaining about needing new lids and some seals and they couldn't be found anywhere when she needed them. BOOM! Went to shed and got her 2 boxes of each of those also. Sucks for those who didn't prepare. |

We’ve been doing pretty well at Walmart for the half gallons. The seem to get a shipment a month or so, usually last just a few days so it’s luck of the draw. They are out there.

I've found quite a few perfectly serviceable mason jars at old abandoned homeplaces in the woods surrounding where I live. Usually heavier duty and well worth carrying back and cleaning up.

Lids and jars both have been showing up in quantity in my area.
It's time to stock up now for harvest. Hopefully it's the same in your area. |

If they had jars and I needed them, I'd happily buy them there. |

View Quote Ball jars with bands/ flats less than $1 jar at Walmart as of this am. Flats jumped 40% in last few weeks!!! ETA: Checked online, and Ball lids were substantially cheaper than in-store if you order for PU. Same with white gas, small propanes, etc. Some stuff 20-40% cheaper. Wide mouth ball.lids were $4.40ish this am. Ordered some more online a few minutes ago, for $3.18. Just got email that they're ready for PU. |

Try your local Dollar General. The type of people who generally shop at DG are not the uh.... type that plan ahead. Canning supplies are as foreign to them as EBT cards to people who work for a living.

Made one in GD about this. https://www.ar15.com/forums/General/Mason-Jars/5-2543207/ My local Walmarts have restocked on jars and lids. They had cases of each type when I went by them this morning. |

check out a company called For Jars. Ran into them at the Homesteaders of America conference last weekend.
https://forjars.com/ Edit: They also had their own branded jars at the tent but I don't see them on the site at all. They said their gallon jars are coming soon. |
|

Prices for these aren't going down people. I saw 32 oz ones with regular lids on Walmart.com for $7.99/dozen earlier this spring and bought 8 cases. They also had the regular lids for $1.79/dozen... yeah, I stacked that shit deep and have something like 600 lids stashed now.

View Quote Yeah, I probably have about that many stashed away too, all bought within the last year and a half. Bought regular mouth at around $2/doz but the wide mouth were all $3.50ish. With a little searching deals for used jars can be had on FB marketplace and Craigslist. I've bought a few hundred all around .25 to .30 per jar. These can be a better deal than the cases of new jars if you can source lids at a reasonable price. The other thing I have found is a FB group called "Rebel Canners." They give practical advise rather than parroting the alphabet bois rules. I have started saving used flat lids in good condition and reusing them, stretching out my stash. |

It was the same here in NW Ohio for a couple of months. Out of stock everywhere. Within the last couple of weeks they've been reappearing. Picked up another dozen Ball wide mouth quarts at Menard's yesterday for 12 bucks. They had plenty of lids and rings, too.
