great net tonite --sorry I couldn't stick around too long. All nets take time to get off the ground. The western PA dmr net started with 5 of us now we routinely get 35-40 check ins and growing (brandmeister TG 3142 Tuesday nights) I look fwd to the day when we have 30-40 arfcom-er's checking in on a regular basis. I encourage net control to look at netlogger to log and track as well as publicize the net , its a great way to run and log the net. just my .02 see y'all next week!

I was getting a bit concerned there as my wifi connection has been rock solid since I reset my iphone's network but right before net it wasn't staying connected. It's been fine since, so, not sure what the issue was. I might enter the other two devices with personal hotspots so the hotspot will definitely grab one of them. OK, let me know, I'll get you a running list of callsigns/ screennames and preamble. |

It's handy to be able to put the tg in the admin page and modify the reflector, lets you listen without everyone monitoring the tg seeing your callsign/id, helpful if your just checking out what's going on in the various active groups.
On an 878 it's easy to punch in TG's on the fly. Hit menu -> talkgroup -> manual dial -> then # to change to a group call and enter the tg number. Kerchunk to active the reflector. |

Question: Is this hot-spot any good? Hard to setup? Should I FO?
I just want to be able to get to the Arfcom group and could care less about anything else. |

Guess I should get a DMR radio now....
All my shit is YSF. ETA: I'm SUPPOSED to be working, not watching HRCC vids on DMR. |

Now I need to figure out what buttons to press to make it work. Unfortunately, I'm not seeing many buttons on this device. Not good. |

Well, so far I've spent almost 3 hours and didn't get anywhere with setting it up. How in the world do I get to the configuration page? I connected to the unit's web server. Used a correct password. I try typing "http://pi-star" in the address line but the browser says: No Internet Access. Tried accessing it from an Android. Same problem.

View Quote I did watch this but they don't tell you much at all. This whole Zum thing is like someone tried to take something simple and make it very complicated. I did manage to get to the Configuration page after about 5 hours of trying and reading different guides. I ended up rebooting my computer 3 times during the process. So I followed the HRO setup recommendations but nothing works. Found another video on Youtube. Tried his advice but still can't get it to work. The Unit just keeps showing "initializing..". Left it there for an hour after powering off and back on. No change. I'm just too tired to continue after fighting it for half a day. May be will try again tomorrow or just send it back to HRO. |

I have no idea how resetting your computer or device trying to read your hotspot would be necessary but sometimes restarting your network adapter can help, it does on my Windows 10 desktop. @gyprat Have you checked the SD card to make sure it's seated? If it's like most pi-based hotspots, the configuration page is seen by putting pi-star.local into your browser after your computer connects to the hotspot via wifi. Edit, my hotspots are also accessible by putting in http://192.168.50.1/ into your browser. If you can get to the configuration page, find "update" and click it. That fixed one of my jumbo spots. Let me call in a hotspot guru @Stretchman This site can help, here's a page that seems related to your issue. https://forum.pistar.uk/viewtopic.php?t=2041 |

I decided to wipe out the files from the SD card and download the files image from HRO's website. Well, the .zip file they provide, appears to be corrupt. It can't be unzipped.
Also, I lost the original files that were loaded on the SD card when I did cut and paste. It cut the files from SD but never pasted them into my Backup folder. It's either my computer is all f*cked up or I'm totally loosing my mind. When I extract the .zip file, it extracts to a single file called: 3.5" Nexion Image with .IMG extension. Do any of you guys know how to use this file to put this "image" to the SD card? |

I would recommend a program called 'Balena Etcher'. I am going to read through the thread and see if I can see what's going on with it. ETA - Use SD card formatter first and make sure that it's formatted before using etcher to burn the files. Pi-Star initial setup Use the files from HRO for your screen to work. |
|
I assume the card was already formatted by HRO. I just lost the files on it. So far, I found a Win32 Disk Imager that accepts the .img file I downloaded from HRO website. I used it to put the image to the SD card. It said the write was successful (took about 10 minutes).
I'll try to start from the beginning again. Maybe the files on the SD card were bad. If this doesn't work, I'll try to format the card and use the Etcher program to image it. Hopefully the Etcher can accept .IMG files. |

When I click UPDATE, a new window opens and says: " Running update, please wait..."
It's been siiting like this for over 15 minutes. Nothing else happens. It's like it's stuck there. |

I believe the problem is that the unit can't connect to the local wi-fi. I've tried to connect to 2 different wi-fi routers with no success.
Just called HRO. The guy said that a lot of customers can't get this thing to work and the instructions they posted on their website are worthless. He said to put the wi-fi configuration first, apply it and once done, disconnect from the Pi-Star wi-fi node and reboot the unit. It can only handle one connection at the time. He said that after it's done, I should be able to connect to the Configuration page through my browser while connected to the same wi-fi (the router in my house). I just did that but can't get to the Configuration page by typing Pi-Star in the address (just like I did while connected to the Pi-Star wi-fi). Nothing happens. It says: "Site can't be reached". |

Try to find the ip on the router config page, and type the ip address. It should be 192.168.1.*** ( the dots being the actual ip ).

When I setup my generic pi-star hotspot for the first time I had to use a usb-Ethernet adapter and then logged into the IP address after looking up the address on my router.

Make a group call on the radio to talkgroup 556 once the hotspot is responding to the radio.
ETA the little icon in the bottom right corner might be a config button. try clicking on it. On the hotspot screen |

Or go to configuration, then dmr, and select tgif.network as the server, and 556 as the room
|

Let's see if we can avoid going into the codeplug for now...can you make calls from the front of the radio?
If so, assuming you have hotspot set up as tgif_network as dmr master: a group call to 556 for the TG or a private call to 9990 (parrot) |
