Where would I use a rod like that?  I thought light weights like that were usually shorter for small tight streams.  I’m a rookie.

Definitely good for nypmhin on small creeks where you might need a little extra reach but don't want to be sporting a 10+ footer.

Like others have said, small flies and small creeks. Those rods are a lot of fun.

I’ve got a 7 ft 3 wt that is a joy to fish -even though I fish bigger creeks with it than I probably ought to.

My father has a reel like the one pictured. He likes it.
