Last deer I hit with an otm at 100yd went about 80yd in a half circle. The bullet had fragmented right about at the heart and only a splinter exited the back side. Very little blood. The frag beat up a lot of meat on the exit side but almost nothing made it through the ribcage. He hit the deer a little high behind the shoulder and it exited the ribcage on the far side. We where up on a hill that overlooked a bunch of different fields and he was actually above the deer shooting down. The entrance wound was nothing special and the exit wound itself looked about equal to deer I've shot with ballistic tips. If you look closely at the pic just past the end of the rail about 3 inches around 10 clock you can make out a circle I touched up where the bullet exited. As for blood there wasn't much but the deer went nowhere at the shot, his back legs folded and down he went. It messed up no meat other than made a mess out of the ribs on the exit side about the size of a grapefruit. This was the first deer I have been involved with shooting with a SMK. I had read where people had success with them on whitetails and it's all I had loaded for the M24 because it really likes them! He has a Steyr ProHunter in 308 and does well with it, but we hunted that morning in the woods and I knew if we went to the fields he may have a shot that was on out there. He had been shooting the M24 during the summer and was doing very well with it. I also knew the hill top would offer him the chance to lay down and shoot prone at about anything we saw, so we with went with that mostly because he was familiar with it shooting at longer ranges. He did complain about how heavy it was |

Proud of my 15 yo son. His second deer in two years. On our companies property. Spotted two bucks 800 yds away. We made a move on them and bumped this one. I started cow calling while my son manouvered for position. The buck stopped and my son put the 127 LRX out of his 6.5 PRC in the perfect spot.

1st year lease property and have these 2 guys coming in. There is one that’s a little bigger coming in that seems to be a shooter....just need to set eyes on him 1st. Trying to keep these 2 around for next year. If we put some time in and get them eating better...I think they should be some pretty good bucks next year. This year they are just lacking some mass.

Shot this buck bout 2 weeks ago. I'm 36, and it's the first deer I've shot in 22 years. I'd been hunting a handful of times since my last deer at 14, but never had a shot opportunity. This one walked out of some thick trees that surround one of our 5 acre fields(this one planted with soy beans), and walked straight to my stand(elevated shadow hunter blind). As soon as he stopped about 80 yards away I hit him in the shoulder with my suppressed 6.5 grendel. I can't believe I took as much time off from hunting as I did. Trying to make up for it now. ETA - All the little black dots all over the deer are mosquitoes. They were lighting our asses up - never should have turned the thermacells off. |

Filled my MN firearms tag late saturday morning, which was opening day for MN firearms season.
Had my 10 year old daughter with, we were hoping to get something inside 50 yards for her to shoot (we hunt in the shotgun/slug zone in MN). Watched this guy breed a doe on the neighbor's property around 9:30 am. 10:30 am he jumped the fence onto our property following the doe after some hunters bumped all the deer off the ridge line to the south. Shot him straight on facing me, slightly downhill, just shy of 100 yards. .50 cal CVA optima, 290 grain barnes TMZ copper over 100 grains of blackhorn, federal 209 primer. Dropped him in his tracks. Between sits on saturday morning, saturday night, and sunday morning, we saw just under 50 deer. Next fall we'll only be shooting does during gun season. I didn't draw a doe permit this year. Attached File Up next I've got a SD black hills any whitetail tag, a double whitetail doe tag for SD east river rifle, and a SD muzzleloader doe tag. |
