Looking for a high end 3 season 2 person tent.  Budget $400 or so.  Available in FDE or OD would be great.  Bright colored shit annoys me.

Is this for backpacking?

I would look for a 3 person tent if possible.

Maybe a Big Agnes Seedhouse 3?

This.

Always go up 1, unless you are actually backpacking and need to be concerned with weight.

i used the hubba hubba forever.  sets up and packs away super fast.  two doors and the vestibule areas are great for packs and boots and whatnot.  it's enough for 2 people.

Big Agnes makes a good tent.  As a prior poster said a two person tent is for one and and a 3 person is for 2.

The REI Halfdome 2+ is a great tent.  Longer length to help with tall campers or having gear stored at your feet, plus it's a bit wider to alleviate the spooning effect.  If you get stuck in your tent on a rainy day the elbow room is nice.

Are you bunking with your wife?  If so, get a three-person tent.  I like Big Agnes.

If you're bunking with a buddy, go down one size to the one-man tent and make him bring his own.

Do you want a 2 person tent, or a tent for two people?
Because I've usually found that you need a plus one to capacity.

So two people, you really want a 3 person tent.

This. "2 person" tents are not practically big enough for two people.

Those fucking commies rip off every great American idea.

This one is 25 years old, probably 40 weeks + of use.

I bet mine still lasts longer than yours.

Steepandcheap has the Alps Mountaineering "Ibex 2" for $119 and the "Ibex 3" for $10 more. They're identical to the Zephyr 2/3, but in a more neutral color.

Dual door, dual vestibule, semi-freestanding, and comes with a gear loft.

Alps Mountaineering Ibex 2

I wouldn't call them "high-end", but with your budget, you could buy the 2 and the 3.

I agree on the commies comment.
I'm having trouble finding the manufacturer of the tent that you love.

I'm thinking about getting a U.S. G.I. GP Small or a 5 man arctic tent for some cold weather car camping/deer hunting. We'll be sleeping two this year and three next year, on cots.
Are new canvas wall tents better than the military surplus that are available?

Big Agnis copper spur is what I use . Two man for you and gear or one large and one small person. You will have to take turns getting dressed. Go with the three man is you’re planing to always have two people and gear in it.

A 3-person tent.

It's nice to have extra stretching room, or the ability to bring your gear inside if the weather's crappy. Or two dogs.

Thanks for the link on the Bear Paw website. I've been looking for something like their 'minimalist' design. I've wanted something very low profile for my preps which would have a waterproof floor, screen and minimal size and weight.

Once when I was about 14 years old I found myself spending a cold, wet, snowy night in the mountains with only a thin jean jacket. I don't want to ever repeat that again. In my search for an impromptu shelter I have considered ponchos, poncho liners, even large garbage bags. Ultimately, I've decided that I should be able to stretch out and sleep without the need to remain in a fetal position or needing to stretch my legs every hour. So yes, again thanks for the link to the Bear Paw tents website. I don't know if I'll order from them yet, but it's possible that that little minimalist tent might be a good solution. Not having seen anything that small, I was almost to the point of trying to make something out of Tyvek and right now, I don't need any more projects.

I have it...came here to recommend it.

I knew I wanted a tent that I could use trekking poles for the stakes to cut down on backpack weight. Also, the vestibule is a very nice feature, large enough to keep you packs under.

It is a solid tent, even spend a 12* night in it.

When you say "Two Person" do you mean Two hunting buddies or Two people sharing one sleeping bag?

I'm asking because most "Two Person" tents are made for two people sleeping VARY close together.

If I was getting a tent for my brother and I to share it would be a Four Person tent.

My wife and I split the load of a Tarptent Stratospire 2 person tent that is really sized at about a 2.5 person tent and plenty big enough for my wife and I.  It has huge vestibules that cover up the packs and boots leaving even more room inside the tent proper.  For a backpacking tent, something like this is perfect.  My wife packs the fly section and she can set it up without the tent body for emergencies and I also pack a separate Dyneema fabric rain fly to give us more room outside the tent it it's still raining, so I have my own emergency cover.  Trekking poles are used as supports, so the total weight we split is something less than three pounds (which also includes the extra small Dyneema rain fly).

It's listed as a 3-4 season tent.  I wouldn't want a heavy snow-load on it, but for what we do, it's easily a 4 season tent.
