Can someone explain whats going on in this guy's ad?
EE ad That rifle clearly looks like an UU kit. Am I missing something? He says it's an OBR light... |
|
[#1]
Nope, not a UU. See the grip panels?
Not sure what special edition OBR lights were offered but I want an OBR light... ETA OBR Light linky |

ETA OBR Light linky View Quote Yeah, the grip panels look like the keymod version. Only keymod ones have flat screws and the fish gill looking slots. The rail section on the end of the handguard looks like a keymod piece as well. Here is a close up shot of my keymod GAPs for reference. |

[#3]
Yesh it's uu kit. Maybe factory assembled
Obrs ptars etc also came with chrome bolts. The handguard to upper shape is different too (rpund vs squarish). And the upper openings on rail on obr are different. Maybe threw on a obr barrel/pst |

[#5]
$1850 is a little high for a UU. He says it has a PST which is kind of odd.
|
|
[#6]
Yeah that's not an OBR. Definitely looks like an UU to me. I don't remember any special offerings of the OBR light. There was the UDE tOBRs a few years ago, but don't remember anything like his picture.

Looks like the feed ramps do not line up properly with the upper either, but I am a newb and could be wrong.

The barrel has standard feed ramps while the upper is M4. No way that was factory assembled. |

It’s a frankenbuild of an OBR bbl in a KeyMod UU kit. Reported and explaining to the mod in the morning.

The UU Kits have their upper receivers cut with M4 feed ramps. An M4 cut upper receiver with a standard feed ramp barrel is a terrible idea. |

I'm the EE mod in question. I locked the sales thread, and we're looking into the seller. Please continue with the discussion, as I don't want to lock an innocent guy's thread, but we definitely don't want someone buying this thing and getting hosed.
In the future, please link to this thread when reporting, I found it on accident trying to research the upper. Thanks for the assist, LaRue intricacies are definitely out of my area of expertise! Also, if someone actually with LaRue Tactical could give an expert opinion, I would appreciate it. |
|
[#16]
Thanks to all for the input. I was pretty sure his ad was false. Not sure if the guy is being shady or doesn't know what he has.

OBR rail with proprietary screws for Picatinny attachment circled in yellow. Attached File Circled in red is the 10 MOA continuous upper rail. Hope that helps. |

Pic from the ad of gun in question
Attached File M4 cut upper with rifle cut barrel extension. Consistent with a predatobr barrel. |

[#19]
Pic of pst gas block consistent with a predatobr barrel. Not a Ultimate upper kit barrel.
Attached File Also notice the hexagon holes cut into the rail. Same as the Ultimate upper kits. |

Pictures taken today are of my personal Larue Upper kit (top) and Larue 556 OBR (bottom).

Pretty clear, some rando got a pst barrel and slapped it in an ultimate upper and trying to market it as a false limited edition rifle

The thread has been trashed.
I would like to thank those of you who IMed and reported this. Obviously, EE Mods and Staff can't catch everything, and help from knowledgeable members is what keeps the EE safe, and makes it the best out there. Also, thanks for going backchannel, and not posting anything in the thread in violation of rule 11, y'all are on the ball! If you find it has been reposted, or anything else amiss, I'm just an IM away. |

The description reads like a harbor freight instruction manual. The PTS gas block? The rifle ramps with M4 cuts in the receiver ruined my night.

Seller replied. Asked for the forum link. Hopefully we can help the seller out and get this rifle fixed.
|
|
[#29]
Sounds like he doesn’t really know what he has or was sold something it isn’t.
|
|
[#30]
Yeah that’s my worry. I hope we can help him get it fixed and sold. Even if he has to part it out.
Don’t want someone buying it then bashing LT about it. |

I want to say thanks to UnknownPatriot...as he is the only one who had the decency to point this thread out. I am the seller and not a super tactical operator born from blackwater who know all about everything. Looks like I bought a bill of goods, a number of years ago, from someone I know and will be reaching out to him today. I am also sending LaRue an email with the sn and see what, if any, info they can give me....sorry, but as George Washington said "You shouldn't believe everything you read on the internet."
But really I can verify some of what has been pointed out and see the conflict, which is why I'm pulling that auction until I can dig into it and get answers. I'm not online much because I work rotating shift work & have kids so free time is limited. One reason I'm selling a couple things; just don't get to shoot like I did 10+yrs ago. Going through hurricanes and damage here is likely the reason I thought I had docs from LaRue on this one, so I rolled with info saved in my gun worksheet, but alas after looking through my physical docs I don't have them or don't anymore. In the future why don't you guys just message a seller if you see something off and let them know there is a thread going on and there are concerns or discrepancies? |

@Tad_07
Sorry to hear you were taken on this. So if you are still wanting to sell may I suggest you work with some of us to part it out. We can help you estimate your break down. We can help explain how you can uninstall the parts or if you like one of us can can do it for you if we are close to you or you want to ship. You may even be able to part it out and sell some of it here. Guys here are very honest on price and easy to deal with. Example. Sell the lower as a complete which will require an Ffl. Pull the barrel and sell the upper and barrel separately. Again we are sorry this happened to you. We are a good community who wants to help. |

View Quote I certainly didn’t mean to color you in a negative light, apologies if it was taken that way. Doubt you’ll have any trouble unloading this working with some of the dudes in here. Lots of stand up guys who love them some LT. |

[#35]
More often than not, when you try to reach out, it's met with a negative response. But, in this case it turned out to be exactly the thing to do, and you seem like a good guy who is honest.
I can see why you would be frustrated that nobody contacted you. It obviously would have worked out well and been the thing to do. Glad you are here now. Hopefully the guys here can help you out. They are all good people. Best of luck. |
|
[#36]
You can most likely make as much or a little more parting it out as you would selling it whole.
Sorry you got taken on a buy. |
|
[#37]
You can part it or sell it as is with full disclosure. Just because it is not what you thought doesn’t mean it is not desirable.
Good luck with the sale and sorry if this group came across wrong. There are so many sellers who are trying to fleece people it is hard to know what to do. |
|
[#38]
Tad 07, if you need help with it, I'm about an hour east of you, I've got the time. Hell, I may be interested in acquiring the parts for a FTF. Hit me up if you want.

Just an idea of what MAY have happened...
Original owner had a OBR.... wanted a 300BLK barrel for it.... LaRue dose not sell them... buys a UU kit takes Blackout barrel out.. puts OBR barrel in sells rifle.. Personally I would not have thought the feed ramps would have been a problem as LaRue barrel in LaRue gun... original owner may not have thought about it either That is kind of how I got my 6.5CM barrel for my tOBR A guy got a UU kit and parted it out on the EE |
|
[#41]
I was even thinking about getting a 5.56 OBR barrel to go in my small block UU ..... guess not now lol
