While it is what it is I guess, it would be nice on a $1500 rifle if someone was handpicking these for the consumer market.

Colt doesn't want a consumer market. The rifles they produce now are for LEO and Military and finish is not important. I collected Colt AR's from the 70's on and up until 1993 that's all I owned.
IMO the rough finishes and unmarked parts is just another chapter in the saga of the Colt AR15. I think the older Colts will keep appreciating in value and will always have an element of support, but I'm not sure that is true for the newer ones.
When Colt made the decision to stop selling to civilians I recognized it was a business decision and not personal. I really expected it sooner because so many manufacturers are making outstanding rifles. I also realized that "for me" if I am not worthy to still be a customer then the company is not worthy of my recognition. They are just another company bowing to political winds that has not produced the best of the best for at least the last 20 years.
Back in 1991 a Colt blue label HBar was selling for $695... I am glad I was able to sell mine for what I wanted. If you can buy a Colt cheap enough and are not worried about retaining collectable value and want a shooter there are still some Colts GTG.
