Being that I don't shoot suppressed, is there any real reason to wait for this on a practical HD / training class / all around rifle? I tend hold off on new models until more is known...though it is BCM after all, so I'd be surprised if it was not reliable.

Ergonomics improvement for ambi charging handles. Ever handled an MCX or slickside AR?
The forward assist being shifted forward and away from the charging handle makes it far more intuitive to roll the gun counterclockwise and pull the charging handle back with your right hand to check chamber, then slap the FA. Also makes it easier to utilize the charging handle with your right hand while keeping the gun steady and on target.
As much disdain as people have for the Russian military, some of their manual of arms techniques are actually pretty slick. They tend to use their trigger hand to reload, check chamber, clear malfuctions, etc, which is typically verboten in the West. Makes sense, can't shoot a weapon while it's down.
They also run two-point slings around the neck when using the rifle, making it easy to manipulate, reload, switch shoulders, etc. Then put their non-dominant arm through the sling to put the weapon aside to use both hands for other tasks. This seems to be getting more popular in the West, these days.
Frankly, though, I'd get an MCX rather than wait on BCM.
