Faxon did nothing in response to my post here. I posted on another site where I'm a regular, and the site owner shook some trees for me. That got a response from the customer service guy at Faxon. I was able to have them send me a replacement barrel. That had an even more jacked up muzzle. The actual lands to about 10mm or deeper in the bore had been severely damaged. Faxon sent me a call tag for that one, and I shipped it back to them. They didn't have replacements for the barrel I had purchased, so I waited and waited. Finally, they had another barrel in stock that I figured would be wanted by someone else. I contacted the CS guy I'd been dealing with, and he sent me that along with some other stuff they had available to get the retail value up to equal the barrel they couldn't deliver. I immediately sold it on a forum, and had my money back, about a year and a half after I first purchased the Faxon. So in the end, I was made whole, but it was an extremely lame experience and a massive waste of time.
In the meantime, I had bought a Criterion barrel of similar configuration to build the rifle I wanted to build. It's beautiful, and I can recommend it.
I had also tried a Faxon .300 BLK pistol barrel, which looked OK except for a burr in the gas port. It ended up being too short for my handguard. Sold it and bought a Wilson Combat barrel. It's also beautiful, and I can recommend it.
I can't recommend Faxon's products, and won't be dealing with them again. The CS rep I dealt with was always pleasant once I managed to actually get ahold of him. I mostly have sympathy that he is doing the best he can in a crappy job being the customer-facing person for a company that can't seem to keep any kind of quality in its production. I'll be sticking with a level up in quality and price in the future.
