So I figured I would try my hand at better picture taking like Brent!
Amazing what a clean lense on your phone and a white background will do....
Granted the only white background I had on hand was something Ar15 related so it worked out!
This is a Colt Modular Rail Adapter System that I picked up I believe last year or so ago. It was sold out of a colt executives collection and I have the letter on that as well somewhere. The manual I picked up in the ammo lot I picked up a few weeks ago.
This was supposed to be in the running for the SOCOM program back in the early 90’s but ended up not working out due to some conflict with the program. This upper is NOS as is the rail and I do not plan on serpating them. It is 14.5” so don’t plan on putting it on a lower any time soon. The upper is odd as it has no colt proof markings of forge codes or any sorts. Just on the carry handle.
The system was designed to make it easier to swap between an M203 and the lower rail and it just clicks into place. The system is very sturdy thanks to a stud on the bottom that sits in the teeth of the barrel nut. It is a hassle to take off as you have to pull the 2 tabs back while pushing the lower rail out all at the same time.
From the manual, you can see there is also a rifle length system as well. The carbine system, like this one, would need a M203 mount on the front on the barrel as seen on page 3 and 5 of the manual. On page 5 of the manual, you can see where they made some edits to it and placed printed stickers on top of the sections.
I have not seen another section like this online anywhere but I have been told maybe 5 sets were sold a couple years ago from a colt liquidation through Ordnance Research which is not where this upper came from. This manual is the only one I have seen like it and a smaller manual was also made for the system that I would love to locate.
