My only Colt is a thirty year old Sporter (lightweight barrel model). Consensus seems to be that a 6920 is the current sweet-spot with regard to reliability / price ratio. I’ve been trying to read up on the other 6920 Socom threads and still had a couple of questions.
1 - Other than the KAC rail is there any benefit to the 6920 Socom vs a regular 6920? I’m not particularly concerned about the “Property Of US Government” engraving and have little interest in having a clone compatible rifle. This would be a general purpose go-to rifle that I’d use and not keep as a safe queen.
2 - I see pricing now at about $1,500 for the 6920 Socom model. For a couple of hundred more I see new Daniel Defense M4A1 models available. Are these comparable rifles?
3 - If I wanted to use an Aimpoint or ACOG on the 6920 Socom is that FSB going to be irritating and annoying in the sight picture?
4 - I see references to markings and codes on the receivers (cage codes, etc) that may or may not be present on the 6920 Socom. Are there markings in particular that are more desirable or that I should make sure are present?
Maybe there is a FAQ somewhere? I’ll probably spend some more time reading threads here this afternoon but thought maybe someone might have the answers to my questions now. Thanks!

1. Has SOCOM (thicker) barrel profile, KAC broom handle, side sling attachment, ambi safety, H2 buffer, and Matech rear sight
2. Somewhat, different barrels and the DD willl be free floated, and have different furniture and a RIS II rail
3. I have an Aimpoint PRO in a 1.57 Scalarworks mount and I don't even notice it
4. Seems most want to have the cage code uppers and charging handle. Mine (I got in 2019) does not, I wish it did, but I still love the gun.
If you lookup Colt SOCOM rifle you'll find a lot of information. For ideas of how to set it up look at the Block 1.5 thread in AR Discussions.
