Hey Everyone,
I've been emailing with Brownells tech support, but wasn't sure if anyone here would have some ideas. I have a SilencerCo Omega 36m and a BRN-180s 10.5 223 wylde upper. I've put about 120 rounds through it and it works perfectly unsuppressed. When I add the 36m and switch the gas to suppressed, I get short stroking every few rounds (either not picking up a round or picking one up and failing to chamber while denting the case). If I switch to the unsuppressed gas setting with the 36 on, I get so much back pressure that it trips the bolt hold open on the lower every few rounds. I can remedy this by keeping my thumb on the bolt release, but I figure that much back pressure probably isn't good for the upper. It seems like the perfect gas setting is somewhere in between.
I know the uppers have a break in period, but I didn't know if anyone had ideas I should try.
Things I've come up with so far but haven't tried yet:
Switch to a lower pressure .223 for suppressed use with gas on unsuppressed setting to try to avoid tripping the BHO.
Try something like mobil1 full synthetic for the BCG and rails instead of CLP to increase BCG velocity on suppressed.
Buy a 5.56 end cap to increase back pressure, but not sure if it will increase it enough.
As a last resort, return and switch to a 16" upper as I see fewer issues posted with those running suppressed.
I'd be interested in any other ideas to try, or if anyone has managed to get the upper running with a 36m. Thanks ahead of time!
