Word is out that ARES is offering SHRIKE uppers to those who had their original deposits refunded, for the original price of $2,495?
How can this be, while I, as an original depositor, STILL SIT HERE SHRIKELESS, WITH NOT SO MUCH AS EITHER A CONFIRMATION OF OR RESPONSE TO MY "LETTER OF EXEMPTION???" This is absolutely intolerable. =8^) |

Maybe they are hoping those folks are dumb enough to be fooled twice

The email states orders can be fulfilled in 8-10 business days after payment and payment can be made via credit cards (which are not charged until the unit ships).
The email also states "this one-time offer is only available between August 15 and September 30, 2012". They charge $175+ in sales tax (FL), $50.00 for shipping and require a copy of the BATFE Form 1, 4 or SOT for the FA version... —————— I'll be selling my basic version (minus the barrel, carrier group and charging handle) for $2950. |

Looks to me like you are very tolerant of it. |

Seems generous enough though to make amends. If anything, you can always re-sale it for a profit if you were too deeply wounded by the way it all unfolded.

When did this happen? Can someone point me to an official statement to that effect?

It clearly isn't about the money or about jerking you around or else folks wouldn't have received the email you refer to in your thread start. If you and others want to stir it up, don't do it here but take it back to spud guns where they will not only tolerate it, but actually encourage it. Thanks for your continued patience while we work through the details that pertain to your specific order. |

ARES, Since this is the place to ask questions and to hear about updates, this is why I posted the above. My commentary is by no means unexpected considering the sheer amount of time that has elapsed since my deposit was sent in, along with the broken promises, the missed shipping dates, the promised dates of invoice, and the total lack of communication. Even to the casual observer, this latest offering appears to be damage control, but is also a black eye to myself and the others here who received your rather unexpected letter [in lieu of what we "thought" was going to be our final invoice; surprise] requesting us to provide ARES with a letter of "exemption" from what you out of the blue now consider the feed mechanism of the Shrike upper to be a large capacity ammunition feeding device in and of itself. Furthermore, now offering those who bailed on the Shrike years ago the same deal that I have waited and waited and waited for, though I have yet to receive a single response in relation to my letter of exemption and sit here Shrike-less, is just plain unbelievable. I'm sorry, but you've been on the inside looking out for so long that you have become callous to those of us who are on the outside looking in. The "letter" came across to me as just another way of gettting us to either bail and ask for our deposit back or buy another ARES product. Surely you can see the frustration this has provided me with and to be honest, I think my voice here has been rather timid, all things considered. Now, if you equate this as "stirring it up" please take a step back and put yourself in my shoes, just for one moment, and see if you would tolerate this for as long as I have. And you are welcome, for my continued patience. Please come to the determination in my favor as soon as possible, as I think it certainly would be in your best interest to do so, on more fronts than I think you realize. =8^) |

Drewbone, If the case is that they don't want to sell to your state.... I like in MD which has a 20 round limit to buy/sell but has nothing to do with possession. Possession in 100% legal. So what we do is ship the item to another state, to someone you know or family. Then go pick up it up there! 100% legal for ARES and then its on you if it is illegal.
ARES, I sure hope you are not considering adding MD to your do not ship list. In MD, its clearly Magazines only that are illegal to buy or sell. Belts and items that hold belts like MG42 baskets are clearly legal. I do also think its pretty crappy that you require someone to send privite tax info (form 4 or 1) to buy your product in FA. You are not stopping anything and setting a bad precedence for the industry. For example, say I just bought a M16. Now I must wait for my form 4 to come back to get the upper. Otherwise I could buy the upper, get it worked in on my friends M16 and have it ready for mine when ATF gets done their 6 months plus with my form 4! |

There weren't any orders taken at $1,795 (October of 1998). I believe that was an estimated price.
Orders were first taken on July 29, 2002 for $2,495. Tony Rumore Tromix Edited to add.....got mine today and it runs like a raped ape. For the kind of shooting I like to do, the gun is way too light. I need to go to a weighted A2 stock and make a heavy barrel for it, in order to get it up around 15 pounds. |

I was e-mailed by a viewer that asked me to post a review, so here goes after firing only about 500 rounds through it.
I set it up on post-sample Tromix CAR lower that was equipped with a DPMS CAR stock tube on it. With the ARES stock tube spacer in place, the bolt carrier would not retract far enough to allow me to engage the bolt catch. I removed the spacer and it worked as it should. I guess the DPMS tube is shorter than Mil spec....no big deal. I started off with a mag of Wolf, on full auto, and it dumped them all. Ignoring the break-in instructions, I got too excited and just had to run a belt! So I loaded one up with brass case stuff and it ripped off about half the belt, then it stopped with an empty left in the chamber. The links were pretty dirty....so I am not sure if that caused the problem or not with debris getting in the chamber. Anyway, I cleaned the chamber up, did a quick polish, and after that, it was on! I hammered it. It ate it all, including belts of Wolf. The only thing I plan to change on it, is to dump the collapsible stock and run a weighted A2. The gun is really, really light, and I preter a heavy gun that doesn't move around as much escpecially when trying to dump long belts into a distant target......I'm not on Seal Tem Six, and neither are you. Removing the stock spacer may allow the roller to make contact with the buffer tube.

No, it doesn't. Not with my stock and H buffer. In fact, it's still coming up a bit short, and should come back a bit farther to be "correct".
