Ive heard ARES systems are around 5k! But its an amazing product, I know, I know. Is their any talk of more of an every mans version? Or a cost decrease? Or do I just have to sell my body on the streets to raise that dough ???

valkyrie upper
Thanks! But I heard they really aren't up to snuff (maybe price difference) and whats the MSRP going at?
That upper requires your lower to be altered in some way. A multi-thousand dollar registered MG is not something one wants to alter! I would go for the Shrike....
Yeah Valkyrie dosent even seem oath the hassle or the dough!
Altering an AR lower is one thing, but, cutting up a registered full auto M16 lower? No way man!
Its like killing a very beautiful and expensive baby!

So you'd have to pay $35 per 100 links for the valk. When I have to pay more for the links to use with my beltfed then the ammo I shoot in it, yeah, there is a problem. |

Man....I didn't even know about the special links.... |

Reciever....unless one (C2/C3 dealer) would use a post sample reciever. Now maybe using a standard AR lower and have it chopped up along with a RDIAS I would stick with the ARES. Yes a few more bucks, but worth it |
Definitely worth it! But alota moolah for a neat belt fed toy ( by toy I mean ridiculously awesome Belt fed machine gun), don't know If I could ever justify having one!
One way is that one needs to compare it with others on the market today. (any belt fed on the market 5.56 and 308 cal) What is it gonna cost to buy a belt fed in todays market?
OK....even if you get a good condition M16 with the $5900.00 Shrike upper you are still way below the price of a transferable M249 belt-fed .223 LMG! OOPS! I hope Ares doesn't see this or they will raise the price!!!!!!!

I think it was advertised for sale a couple of years ago for $550,000.00... |

That is insane!

Welcome to the insane world of Class 3 machine guns!

You gotta really love it and have really deep pockets to afford the lifestyle! Just wish the ARES SHRIKE could be like 2-3k , or somewhat affordable for most people!

The Valkyrie is a pretty cool product. I've got my Shrike (THANKS ARES) mounted on my m16 and it's an awesome product. I've also got several other beltfed MG's, and I'm debating about sending a lower to Valkyrie. I've got a couple of LL's that just sit in the safe and it might be nice to use one on their beltfed. btw, no I'm not selling any of them. Expensive links aren't a problem since I probably would shoot it much anyway. Cant' ever have too many belt feds. |
Sounds like a wonderful and crazily expensive line up of MG's, anybody know of anything belt fed for 2-3k? Thats really all I can justify spending on crazy toys!

I afraid you are out of luck in that price range.... The only option I am aware of the the 22LR betfed upper from Lakeside Machine. I bet you could also pick up a old BRP Upper in that pricerange as well as there are probably plenty of former M16 owers that can no longer use them and would like to recoup some of their investment. |
So what's the deal with the BRP upper?
The cliff notes version:
BRP guns came out with an MG34 based upper for M16s. Cost was about 4 grand at the time. The upper itself was approved by the ATF as a Title 1 firearm unto itself as the barrel, feed mech, recoil spring, etc were all in the upper. (The M16 lower function as a mere trigger pack, similar to an HK trigger pack) A decent number of people bought these who owned M16 lowers 5 years later the ATF came out with a ruling that combining a BRP XMG Title 1 upper with a Title 2 M16 lower was "making" a new post sample machinegun out of the XMG upper. Viola, all BRP owners now had a 4 grand semi-auto only albatros. Hence, I bet you could get one for a grand if you wanted. Suppossedly the rumor was the ATF was forced into this ruling by folks pushing for approval for a RPD based M11/9 upper, who kept using BRPs approval and design as the basis of their argument that their design was no different. ATF said "ok fine, we will just reverse the BRP approval". Do a google search on BRP XMG and you will probably get many more details that I could ever remember. |
Thanks for all the great info! Thats about all I could exact too from the long and brutal history, but all the auctions I saw =3k+., plus parts would be so expensive, hard to et, etc. However it is really good stuff and thanks! I think I will eventually buy an ARES I'm a huge fan of the product just not the price!
