in general I'd prefer to be beaten with a stout stick to attending a state fair that said the wife would like to see a music group performing at the IN state fair.

Any clue how many hours before the show we're going to have to sit in line in the July sun to see this?

I see there is a 'tasting room' with Indianna Beer and hootch so might not be a total loss

Screwed? Idk, I've never been to a show at the fair.

I actually hadn't even been to the fair since I was a child but my son had a visit with a specialist at Riley last year during the fair so we made a day of it and went to the fair (it was one of the $3 entry days so reasonably cheap for the whole family). I think weekday during the day it's not bad. Parking was easy,  no crowds, no lines, and we had a reasonably enjoyable time. Evenings and during big shows, all bets are off.


You are correct that you can't carry. There are some interesting politics, policies, and laws surrounding the fairgrounds and the fair. The fairgrounds themselves are not off limits, it's public property and thus subject to state preemption. However, the board that controls the state fair has rule making powers that DO carry the weight of law and they say no firearms. The no firearms policy is only in effect and enforceable DURING the state fair. To get from the parking areas to the fairgrounds you will pass through metal detectors.

Way before there were metal detectors or even before I was old enough to carry.

I've always wondered at the pretzel logic that was probably utilized in order to make the state fair gun free under the penalty of law.

Indiana has plenty of "old school backwoods" laws that are out of place in a free state but too many fudds at the statehouse to repeal them.

That being said, the state didn't make the law banning carry there, they gave the state fair commission (or whatever it's called) the power to enact administrative laws & policies on matters of the fair but only during the fair.

Very strange rule. Oh well, I guess I will go to the KY state fair and carry.
