I plan to join her, I will likely telework from the hotel while she is at work during the day. They are booking her room at the Hilton Riverside (I guess it's close to where she will be).

#1, the hotel says parking is $30/day in their garage. For a simple country boy like me (where I can park wherever I want for free) that seems expensive. Will there be more affordable options on the street or around the area? Are there risks to parking on the street or in another garage etc? We're driving, and because she elected to drive instead of fly they're only going to reimburse her the cost of flights; parking at $30/day will be more than the flight cost. We're ok paying out of pocket a little bit for her travel expenses but did not anticipate $30/day parking.

#2 We plan to stay an extra night. We aren't really into bars and partying but do like good food. Should we stay at the Hilton or go somewhere else? Any "must-see" things?

#3 My wife and I are unvaccinated, will we find it difficult to find non-bar places to eat?

Other info and questions:
I've never been to LA but my wife's aunt used to live in N.O. and she has been there many many years ago (pre-Katrina). My wife can sometimes be a picky eater, I'll try anything at least once. I intend to carry, is there anything I need to know? I'm into history, my wife would rather stay at the room if I'm doing anything related to history.

New Orleans just reinstated an indoor mask mandate. It also was requiring people to show Vax cards at the door. You might want to check with the Hilton Riverside directly to see if they will even let you stay there. (Nice hotel BTW).

$30 per night sounds about right for hotel parking.

There's a Holiday Inn on the west side of the river just off of the bridge (bridge is called Crescent City Connection). There are also two newer hotels right next to it. I can't remember, but one is a long-term suite kind of place (do a Google map search and you'll likely see them). All have free parking, and Jefferson Parish does not have mask or Vax restrictions, although some places do so on their own.

The only downside to staying on the west bank is that sometimes the bridge traffic is unpredictable.

If you do make it down here, don't miss the WWII Museum - ranked in the top 5 worldwide museums a few years ago. Plan to spend at least a day there if you want to see everything. Check their website for any sort of vax restriction, but since it' in city limits, masks will be required.

From what I saw online it's vax card OR negative test w/in 72 hrs. I'm hoping that is true. Do you have reason to believe a negative test wouldn't work?

Her work is booking the hotel so for those nights we're stuck at that one. I figured out that the Harrah's casino a couple blocks away has free parking for Caesar's Rewards Members...I'm not above signing up just to get free parking lol.

Thanks for the advice on the WWII museum. Sounds like a perfect thing for me to do while she's doing her work thing. It will be glorious for me to be able to read signs and things without her sighing behind me and mentioning how slow I read. Lol, I promise, she's not a terrible wife, she just has absolutely zero interest in history type stuff.
