AG Miyares has been in office for over 6 months now and yet no new reciprocity agreements have been negotiated.  Why is that?  I had hoped when we finally rid ourselves of his detestable predecessor we would see some positive changes to undue the damage done.   Has anyone heard anything from the AG or his office on this?

There's a lot of purple voters that might get conned into thinking the SC has gone rogue bc the narrative overlooks the legal analyses.  I would wait until after the mid terms just so there isn't more headlines to whip up folks into a mobilized frenzy against the VAGOP.  I mean cripes did you see how many single women that aren't dem loyalist have gone apeshit with the past few rulings?

Because it is up to the VSP, Not the AG:

Here's the pertinent code section: https://law.lis.virginia.gov/vacode/title18.2/chapter7/section18.2-308.014/

"...The Superintendent of State Police shall enter into agreements for reciprocal recognition with such other states that require an agreement to be in place before such state will recognize a Virginia concealed handgun permit as valid in such state. The Attorney General shall provide the Superintendent with any legal assistance or advice necessary for the Superintendent to perform his duties set forth in this subsection. If the Superintendent determines that another state requires that an agreement for reciprocal recognition be executed by the Attorney General or otherwise formally approved by the Attorney General as a condition of such other state's entering into an agreement for reciprocal recognition, the Attorney General shall (a) execute such agreement or otherwise formally approve such agreement and (b) return to the Superintendent the executed agreement or, in a form deemed acceptable by such other state, documentation of his formal approval of such agreement within 30 days after the Superintendent notifies the Attorney General, in writing, that he is required to execute or otherwise formally approve such agreement."

There is a bigger issue. Where can Virginia expand reciprocity to?

WA, IL, OR, CA, HI, MN, NY, PA, MD, DE, NJ, MA, CT, RI.

Every one of those States have a Democrat who would have to approve the expansion. It simply won't happen.

So how do you get an unelected VSP to answer to the people?  Anyone at VCDL on this?

Again... precisely WHERE is there even a chance to expand reciprocity?

Be specific:

We had full reciprocity with PA prior to Herrings election.   We lost it over that states issue with our training requirements being loosened.   It could have been saved IF the AG at that time had attempted to negotiate, but he was thrilled to see VA lose a state from the reciprocity agreement.

Don't we have a law that we accept every other state's permit?  Acceptance (or not) of VA CHPs is on the other state.

You are forgetting the other side of the equation.

Josh Shapiro, the AG of PA.

There wasn't a chance there. Shapiro shanked several State on the PA list. It had nothing to do with VA.

There simply isn't any place that reciprocity could be expanded to at this point.

Thanks, I know about Shapiro.  I'm still convinced that if we had a pro 2nd AG in office then a compromise could have been found.  In this case Herring was eager to drop as many reciprocity agreements as possible and was happy to watch this one go.

Yeah.  When Herring got overzealous there was a strong reaction from the general public and a law was passed recognizing permits from every state.  I believe that law got us reciprocity with Colorado just by enacting it.
