Can anyone point me in the general direction of where to have a chance at seeing the Salt River wild horses? I understand they are wild and there is a lot of land out there where they could be, but my wife would like to try to find them. We don't mind hiking a bit and I have an off-road capable vehicle. I also know that you cannot pet them or ride them like you can the bison in Yellowstone (joke)

Saw horses in two locations this morning:

About 18-20 or so right hand side of North Bush Hwy just a mile off the exit from the Beeline heading towards Saguaro Lake, base of a hill today...just watch where the cars are pulled off...maybe 3-4 other photogs and a few folks watching them this morning.  

Coming back saw another 8-10 heading out to McDowell mountain park wandering down a wash on the right side of the road, maybe two miles outside of Fountain Hills.  Didn't slow so am unsure if these are reservation horses wandering, they often come into the edge of town around the middle school and the MCSO staff have to move them off or can be seen from the bridge on the Beeline Hwy past the casino in the river itself.

I see a few off of highway 347 between PHX and Maricopa

Your best is going to be in this area.  My parents saw some off of 87 a few days ago... but they always tend to be not far from water.. ie salt river or verde.

You can see feral horses that don't belong around the salt river. You can also see the habitat and riparian destruction from them as well in the same area.
