Total Defense up in Ramsey. Its a bit north of the metro but should be mostly a straight shot north of SLP for the most part. $69 I believe is what I paid last yera. I thought the instructor did a really good job with the class. My only rub was that I expected him to be a little more well versed on nuances of where you cannot carry.

One of the instructors is an Arfcommer. Not sure if he wants to be identified so I won't. Take the class and written test online and shooting test in person at Stock and Barrel in Chanhassen. Best CCL experience that I've had. |

A written test is not a requirement of MN PTC licensing.

For real shooting orientated class Defensive Edge hands down.
There are many venues for taking the basics! Some of the venues are worthless. Telling war stories and shooting in the basement of a home with instructor provided handgun. Buyer beware! |

Everyone has their own expectations for a class.
The VAST majority of classes provide nothing more than meeting the criteria set forth by the state. And, then some instructors try and bend the rules by.....trying to get away with bb guns in motel rooms, airsoft guns, paint ball guns, and of course some are so full of themselves then do true disservice the shooting community! And, some of the out spoken instructors are doing nothing but making themselves feel important. BUYER BEWARE And, the VAST majority of those taking PTC classes are not shooters! That is evidenced by going to any local range! And, the law does not require a person to practice, or even be proficient the manual of arms of a particular weapon! But that is not the job of a PTC instructor, either. There are venues and instructors that do provide quality range exercises and people get one on one instructor. There are not that many gifted shooters in the world. |

For anyone who is interested in spending a day on the range working from concealment, focusing on being a better shooter and weapons handler, then you may consider our Handgun 1 Course.
You will spend the day working from concealment. It is our belief that if you are going to be carrying a concealed handgun, then you should be training and working from concealment. We will be shooting standing, kneeling, sitting, prone, and putting quality shots on target. Handgun 1 Course When: August 4, 2019 Where: Our home based range in Princeton, MN Cost: $200 (Registration available direct through our website) Space is limited, if you wish to attend then register early. The Handgun 1 Course is designed for the novice shooter or remedial training for the more experienced shooter. The handgun is primarily a defensive weapon. Small and easy to conceal, it is often the first choice when selecting a firearm for defense. The handgun is the most difficult to master in comparison to the shotgun, carbine/rifle, or sub-machine gun. If you are going to be relying on a handgun for self-defense, then you better be able to use it properly. Our emphasis is to introduce the Fundamentals of Firearms Safety to the novice, and will teach the skills necessary to properly use the revolver and semi-automatic handgun in a self-defense situation. SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION OF THIS COURSE QUALIFIES FOR MINNESOTA PERMIT TO CARRY TRAINING REQUIREMENT. The hands-on course will cover the following: •Legal aspects of owning, transporting, carrying, and using a firearm for self-defense •Tactics of self-defense •Proper Stance •Grip & Recoil Management •Draw Stoke/Presentation/Reholstering from concealment •Sight Alignment/Sight Picture •Trigger Press •Reloading & Malfunctions •Shooting from Standing, Kneeling, Sitting & Prone •Firearms Safety Issues (range/home/on-off duty) •Shooting from Close Quarters to 25yds (50, 75 and 100yds if time permits) Student equipment needed: •Handgun - nothing Smaller than 9mm or .38" (Revolver or Semi-Automatic), must be of quality make (No Rossi, Highpoint, Jennings, Bryco, Taurus 92 copies without Decockers, etc, if you have questions of a gun please email us) •Two speed loaders or three magazines (to match your handgun) •300 Rounds of ammunition •Quality Hip Holster with Thumb break or other Security Locking/Retaining Device. Friction retention holsters are fine, as long as they are of quality make, and securely retain the firearm. IWB holsters are fine, but must remain open once gun is removed. NO shoulder rigs, cross-draw rigs, or cheap nylon Uncle Mikes type holsters, as they can be an issue for range safety. •Cover Garment For Concealment (You Will Be Working From Concealment) •Hearing and Eye Protection, knee and/or elbow pads if you wish as we will be shooting from kneeling & prone •Pack a lunch and snacks & fluids to keep hydrated. •Dress for all types of weather as it is Minnesota, we will shoot rain or shine.
