You might have missed a noteworthy provision in the funding bill that was passed by Congress last week and finally signed, after a surprise delay, by Pres. Trump on Sunday night.

In addition to providing some pandemic relief and keeping the government going, the package has given the United States a new national park.

West Virginia's New River Gorge National River, located in the Appalachian Mountains in the southern part of the state, will become the New River Gorge National Park and Preserve, the country's 63rd national park and 20th national preserve.

Not sure how I feel about giving a big chunk of real estate over to .gov control. They do such a wonderful job of managing their affairs. Funny, in the 80's I drove a tractor trailer and hauled coal out of the Gorge under the piers of the Bridge. Now, you get fined for killing a rattlesnake down there.

My concern is hunting rights.  The National River was open to hunting.  A National Park may find public hunting areas severely limited or eliminated all together.  I was happy when the area became a National River because it kept the greedy hunting clubs from leasing up all the land.

You’re right to worry it will also greatly reduce the fishing there too.
