AZ HTF Shooters!

Announcing the 2018 occurence of the oldest annual rifle match in the US! every year since 1893! This is also the best attended NRA/CMP-style High Power "Service Rifle" shoot in Arizona! I expect 200 shooters!

The Washington's Birthday Rifle Match

Ben Avery Shooting Facility High Power Range: 17-18-Feb-2018

Match website: http://washingtonsbirthdayriflematch.org/

This is a 50-shot 3-position (standing, sitting Prone) 2-speed (slow fire, rapid fire) all at 200yds set up in a 4-man team format and any military, military style or milsurp rifle of the smokeless era, bolt or semi, can be used! About 80% of the shooters use AR=15 type rifles!

This is a GREAT beginner-friendly shoot, the team format  and a whole weekend of fun starting with  with saturday's beginner's class, then sunday has a full day match bracketed by opening and awards ceremonies and raffles with a break for burger lunch and swap meet mid day!

You don't have to have any experience shooting your AR-15 or milsurp in NRA/CMP style competition! The 200yd target is mounted on a 6 foot square of cardboard and your shots are marked so you can see where you are hitting! With your team members coaching you and the opportunity to attend saturday's training class this is the perfect shooting event for the beginner or once-a-year high power shooter!

Plus there are some practice opportunities coming up: Sat 27-Jan at Rio Salado will be a dedicated 200yd practice. Both sun 28-Jan and sat 10-Feb at PRGC, each of those days will be a pair of 30-shot CMP-style C&R/milsurp shoot at 200 yds. Sat 3-Feb will be a 200/300/500yd 80 shot NRA style High Power at PRGC.

Gather up some friends and form a team! or sign up as an individual and be squadded into new teams! Sign up for lunch and the T-shirt, buy raffle tickets for an M1 Rifle too! The match, the lunch the raffles are a huge fund raising event for the Arizona State Junior High Power Rifle Team http://www.arizonajuniorhp.com/ trip to the National Matches at Camp Perry OH every year!

Signed up! Looking forward to my first experience at Ben Avery. My friend has been going down for some time, I am more of a pistol shooter than rifle guy, hope not to embarrass myself too much! Prior to moving to the Prescott area, the ranges I frequented back East used mostly 100 yard reduced courses, have not shot out to 200 for a long time! Will have to dust off my

if you two want to be on the same team, PM me your real name. I'm doing squadding tomorrow night.

for the rest of you, we close entries around 3PM tomorrow/friday, so there's still time, 2 more ARFCOMers and we can create a TEAM AZ HTF !

sorry, I didn't see the IMs until we completed squadding, Captain is on target 41 along with the friend he requested to be squadded with and 2 other guys who made a similar request.

rifleguy is unassigned so unless he's picked up by a team with a missing member, he'll be on a pickup team, around target 70 or so.

to the rest of you, we can take walk ons, spectators are welcome. We'll be on the 200yd line of Ben Avery's High Power range from 7AM till 5PM sunday!

Thank you and Poole for providing a safe and enjoyable match ! Hope to make this an annual pilgrimage!
Despite some confusion with the start time ( different on website versus email ) and the score card issue you pulled off a great feat running this very well. I appreciate your efforts

confusion about the start time? there was no confusion.... I proposed a time, the other volunteers proposed a different time, I accepted it, I put the new time on the website and the score card (the same one with 9 spaces to record the score of a 10 shot string... yeah that was my mistake!)  and then i updated the part of the website I missed in the earlier revision. Then match morning.... yet another volunteer decided we were ready started the match before I could make the announcements in the right sequence!

153 shooters in 38 teams, 128 AR-15's on the line besides 9 M1s 8 M1As 2 1903s 2 K31s and a few other odd ball rifles....

and not a drop of rain...

we did have this tho

Maybe the AZ Scorpions need to open up a towing business?

I honestly didnt understand why AZ G&F couldn't just cite the vehicles.  You only made like a thousand requests to move.

ETA- I do wonder whos car that was.  It was gone between lunch and 1500 hours.
