American Pioneer Corps will be having boat training at Lake Hickory Scuba on 8/28. Our senior trainer will be @FREEFALLE7 who brushed up on his skills during the national APC training in June.

Passing a swim test is a prerequisite, but we will be doing one onsite for anyone who still needs to pass it.

Meet up time to be determined.

EMERGENCY ETA: Free had a family issue pop up so we are postponing until a later date. Sorry for the late notice.

Will be bringing entire family.

Wife will be on a paddle board and they have 4 paddleboards to rent at $10hr or 50 all day.

They have food and a restroom at the dive shop.

Is the swim test the same as on the APC link, 50 yds in boots/pants?

Is there a cost to cover boat/fuel/misc?

After reading the APC link I still don't grasp what it is we're learning....? Just to drive a boat?

No cost. No motors, either.

Yes, the swim test is the 50m with clothes and boots, just to make sure if you go overboard you can swim to a thrown flotation device, but everyone will be wearing a floatation vest while in the water.

A few of us did this exercise with the VA group.

We learned how to board an inflatable Zodiac type raft with your 45 lb pack, and then face the most adverse conditions (ie raft over turning 5-6 times), and be able to right the raft without losing your gear. A second part was learning to assemble a rope bridge across a small section of the lake and cross with your gear. We also crossed a 200 yard section of water with the pack, using the aid of a flotation device.

In summary, learn some interesting outdoor skills, and have some fun while getting to know some local Arf members.
