Coming to visit New Orleans w/ the family next week from TX.  What's some good gun shops I need to see.  Looking for older collectible stuff.  Don't really care much for the newer stuff.  I-10 from the border to New Orleans.

Thanks.

Start in Houston...Collectors Firearms on Fondren Rd.
Not cheap but huge inventory to drool over. Nothing like that in La.

Yep that place is pretty cool.  They are usually pretty proud on their pricing too.

I'd love to recommend something, but I'm pretty sure Louisiana was only occupied by Fudds until the last 10 years.

There are typically older firearms at the gun-show in Kenner at the Pontchartrain Center Mar 17-18 , ( http://www.greatsoutherngunshow.com/calendar.htm ) just outside New Orleans, but I don't know of a shop that primarily offers such.

I've been to Jim's, Jefferson Gun, and Puglia's on your list. All newer stuff for the most part unless you find something on consignment.

Ditto on the above, but the old Jefferson Gun, plus both locations of Barney's where you might find police trade-ins, and I've spoken with Mr. Ford (think his first name is Gary) a couple times, he had a nice selection of 1911s.  Puglia's had CZs, ARs, and other neat stuff, but that was 6-7 years ago last time I was there.

Cool appreciate the feedback.  Trying to weed out which shops are just full blown retail new guns vs ones that has some used collectible stuff.

Skip Barney's and Bayou Teche Guns. Barney's is a police supply store so most of the stuff they sell is new.
Bayou Teche is a gunshop with little inventory. Mike does good work. Good places but no old collectible firearms.
Most of the shops in La. sell new stuff. Occasionally they will take something in on trade.

I've spent many thousands of dollars at Jim's Firearms. I've bought a couple guns from Spillway. My favorite is Meplat in Metarie. He doesn't have a huge showroom but is a great class three dealer.

Nothing in the state will compare to Collector's over in Houston.

thanks for the feedback.  i'll probably call a few of the other places to see if they have what i'm interested in before making a detour.

Gator Guns in Sulphur is a great shop. They put on the gun show here every so many months.  Not sure how many used firearms they have though.  Then again i haven't been to their new location  yet.

The shop on royal street in Nola is worth a visit, I'm talking about blunderbusses etc type weapons there. It's a neat store.

The Cabela's gun library in Gonzales has been good for a few gems here and there.

called most of the shops on my way out and one had a preban colt that they just sold for $1200 and another had a colt sp1 carbine for $3000.  stopped by collectors in houston as well but no early AR15s either.  had fun in your state, ate well and didn't get a ticket in or out which was good.  i forgot someone told me how bad the traffic would be getting through baton rouge.

Did you have any trouble with traffic around the Sulphur/Lake Charles area?  I've been hearing bad things but I've been able to avoid most of it.

We came in pretty early around lunchtime and didn't notice anything too bad around sulphur/lake charles and hit that part of town pretty late going out so I don't know what it's like under normal conditions.  Baton Rouge was pretty bad though.
