While I agree that my statement summarizes the 50K foot fly over view. Crazy people doing crazy people shit, there does need to be some failure analysis that still needs to be done. There were multiple failure that lead to this event. Newspapers are just looking for a headline so that people will by their irrelevant and archaic form of news. Hate crime sells papers and this was no doubt a “hate crime”.
This dude was crazy as a shit house rat.
By multiple accounts this guy was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia. Ruled disabled IIRC.
Had multiple domestic violence convictions, including some against his parents and his ex wife which interestingly enough was African American.
His own father said he was a danger to himself and others.
Had assaulted an officer in court during a proceeding about attacking his elderly parents and had his firearms rights suspended for two years. Two years? Really?
There was plenty of decision points that could have stoped this long before he ran into an armed citizen at Kroger. The armed citizens were too little too late.
I am truly interested in how this guy could get a gun and where this guy got his gun.
I think we all can agree that a paranoid schizophrenic with multiple violent offenses has no business with a firearm, but yet here we are.
The topic of armed citizens and their reaction and level of engagement is well ... more nuanced.
