Heading to Texas in the next week and I’m too old for this shit. Moving to be closer to family but leaving this socialist shithole behind is a huge plus.
While eastern Washington is relatively conservative its changing quickly. I assume city folk are exiting the big cities and the horrible political environment they have created for the smaller towns.

Have a safe journey.
At this point of my life, I have to be satisfied with our move to eastern Washington.

Sad to lose a sensible voter, but good luck in Texas. Keep up the good fight.

Started sending applications in a few weeks ago. Couple interviews lined up, time to go. Gotta give my small children a little breathing room and a chance to grow up in what is still the U.S.A. These commie/socialist states have made it so America is naught more than a mindset for the remaining strong willed.

I wish you all luck, but I'm gone just as soon as I can be.

Congrats OP!!!!

I am leaving next year, can't wait to leave.
The taxes and gun laws here, getting worse every year, for sure.
I am heading to where the grass is greener, for sure.
A Free State and retiring where my kids are.

So if your kids lived here you would still be moving away from them?

OP, where in Texas?  Depending on the location (i.e. big city like Houston, Dallas, etc.) the only thing you may be trading is topography and hot weather.  Regardless, if time to go and be closer to family, wish you safe travels.

We moved the day after school was out. Our kids are so much better off, healthier and happy. Best decision we made.

I agree, if the grand babies were here I wouldn’t be going. Leaving Washington politics behind is a bonus.

It’s also WAY more of a crime shithole than anywhere is Washington. Period.

Texas is not bad, tax-wise, for retirees, according to this article:

That's income taxes
From your link:

The average effective property tax rate in Texas is 1.69%.
This is the seventh-highest rate in the U.S.
That means a typical homeowner in Texas can expect to spend about $1,690 in annual property taxes for every $100,000 in home value.

"Of special interest to retirees are generally issues such as whether Social Security benefits are taxable at the state level, what property taxes will be levied and how retirement account and pension withdrawals are taxed."

Not just income taxes.  You have to look at all taxes.  No state income tax is significant.  Depending on your situation.

We are starting to look at properties in Texas.

I have an open invite to a job there and several more I could probably walk into through my contacts.

I am going hunting this year with the idea in mind this may be my last time in the mountains here.

I'm fucking done with the assholes in this state.

I feel so bad for my kids being jerked around. They are 4 and 7. Probably the best time to move them before they're older. My kids are very fortunate in that they are great at making friends.

Same boat here. We live in a great neighborhood with lots of kids my son’s age range (5-9). However, the city (Camas) and state are going to shit and I can see what’s coming. We found a good, red county in FL with a great school system and will move next summer. My son is very outgoing and will make new friends quickly. As Boomer says, better sooner than later — to try to make those lifelong friendships.

We moved to Idaho 2 years ago, and miss living in Washington, and we've actually considered moving back. I come in here to remind myself why we moved in the first place.

Every place has a give and take, all my wife's family lives in Washington and we're super close with them, so living 7 hours away has been tough on us both. That and I love the salt water, so living in a state with no coast sucks bad for me. I haven't moved my jet boat in 2 years because I don't like fishing in fresh water.

Washington is one of the most beautiful and fun places to live I've ever been, if it weren't for the politics it'd be my home for the rest of my days.

Who knows we may end up back over there and attempt to change the system, not that I have much hope in that. I feel like conservatives are moving to red states and liberals are moving to red states, so in a few years it might not matter where you live anyhow. This whole situation sucks balls.

Don’t forget the $5,000 lease needed to make use of that $25 deer tag.

My wife and I both have the benefit of not liking the ocean or salt water. Give me a mountain lake or stream any day of the week. I could never visit the ocean again for the rest of my life and be just fine.  Ironic since I work in the maritime industry.

I wish I felt that way, Salt water is my happy place. I don't hunt, but fishing in the salt water is pretty much my favorite hobby. I do river fish, but only for salmon and I run in and out of the rivers from the bay.

Haven't been fishing in 2 years and I'm hating life.

That's a fact. Back when car tab fees were reduced by initiative, the state just recouped losses by hiking other segments like professional license renewals & such, all of which invariably come back to us through higher prices. Pick your poison, you're still getting it.

After 20 years, left W WA 7 weeks ago. I'll miss the scenery, but not the new woke politics. If you want to know what Inslee is gonna do next week, look at what Gavin Newsom or Kate Brown is doing this week.

Fuck Jay Inslee.

Fuck Bob Ferguson.
