Louisiana is very NFA and CHL friendly.

NFA - everything is legal and only requires the ATF paperwork now.  about 5 years ago you used to have to go through the state police as well, but they eliminated that law, it was stupid and a waste of resources.

CHL in Louisiana is Shall issue.   You do have to jump through some hoops though - classes etc.  You will have to check out one of the CHL class providers to get exact regs.   I am from there and recently left in 2016.

Income taxes suck.  You will pay them, but overall, LA is one of the lower cost of living states in the Union.   Property taxes more than make up for the loss of no state income tax from texas.  Just be sure to file your homestead exemption.

Food and people are awesome for the most part.   There are a lot of A holes in La just like anywhere.   South la, in particular NOLA area is the land of the haves and have nots.

Technically a CHP (Concealed Handgun Permit), but it's easy to acquire. 8 hour class, application, money order, finger prints, blah blah blah. Dudes have received their permit in days. It's like paying a fee to play the game. The class is typically worthless unless you find an instructor that will tack on some extra learning.
