Saw absolutely nothing. But at least I was comfortable doing it.

Found out I can get 9 hrs of heat from two 1lb cylinders before having to swap them when on low. Not bad, and I never had to put my gloves on and left my coat off.

Now I’m getting scolded by my 7yo son for not getting a deer because supposedly he is “forgetting what deer tastes like” because it’s been too long (a whopping 2 weeks since he’s had it) and he is not happy about that.

What heater are you using that you can get 9 hours from a 1lb can?  I have one of the 4000 / 9000 BTU buddy heaters and can get 5 hours best on low heat...

He said two 1# cans. I assume he has the Big Buddy that holds two, one on each side. I use a 20# with a hose and regulator for mine 80% of the time. The 1# cans are handy for going to different blinds on other property.

Pretty foggy in my area. Hopefully this ice/rain/snow mix is causing them to move.

I’ve got 3 does in range. I really don’t like taking does off this property. I think I’m letting them walk.

Whelp...

Got a shot off at a VERY nice tall racked, I believe,10 pt just before 5.

Got out of the blind there were 3 does in the field behind me, one of them was a piebald. Just can’t bring myself to shoot one of those then a medium sized buck chased them.
Put a call into the adjoining landowner to get permission to search.
By the time I got over to look for too dark couldn’t find blood.

Did find a shed.
I’ll be out first light for a better search. I looked for an hour by flashlight but that was futile and exhausting in my hunting gear.
Sucks I couldn’t find him, but a good day of hunting. Man I hope I find him or find no signs of a hit.

How far was the shot? Did the hit look good?

About 150 yds

One thing that is driving me nuts
I had horrible follow up. The 450 blew the blind covers in front of me so I couldn’t see anything couldn’t even tell which way he ran

No luck
I searched for 3 hours this morning. No sign of blood at all. Just a little bit of white fur. So I’m guessing I pulled it and grazed his belly.

The adjoining landowner was looking for him yesterday since he shot at it Saturday. He’s an elusive bugger.

At least I don’t think he’s injured badly. Just not sure how I screwed the shot, I was sure I was on and that gun shoots great groups. I’m suspect of the scope now. It was a $20 pawnshop pick up. It’s getting replaced before next year.

I’ve already got the in-line out and ready.

Thank you that is the perfect and justified response to A1.

But that does look like a good meal.

But A1...wtf

It did amplify my lack of deer sadness.

But hey I was comfortable.

I’ll be taking the bushmaster back to the range this weekend, something has got to be up with that scope to miss the coyote and the deer.

The TC has been a proven deer dropper. Bring on ML season.

That can be arranged.  Do you want A1 on that?

I had a survey in my email regarding my opinions on how hunting went this year, how much I hunted, what I used, etc.

One of the questions was about starting the gun season on Saturday after Thanksgiving instead of Monday, and either keeping or doing away with the bonus weekend.

Starting the day after Thanksgiving would be cool.

Discounted tags aren’t the answer. Better access programs are.

Ohio needs something like a Block Management program. In Montana and a lot of western states landowners are given tax breaks or paid to allow public hunting on their property. The land owner sets the rules, and different “types” are used, either ones where you sign in for the day in a box by the parking area or you sign up in advance at the beginning of the hunting season. Who uses the property and when is logged.

I know not many landowners would partake, but enough would that it would greatly increase access compared to where it currently is. Especially if you encouraged large corporate landowners to participate.

Long gone are the days of knocking on the farmers door unfortunately.
