Update 01/13 We have a nice little group started. I have removed the public link to the channel. If you would like access, please IM me and I'll share the link.
I have created a group "2020 BBQ Poker Run" for Texas members to go in case this place goes dark. This uses the encrypted app called "Telegram" Remember, nobody is vetted as of yet, and even though encrypted, don't consider it secure. Don't say anything dumb. For those new to Telegram, here are some guidelines when signing up/using --- OPSEC CHECK --- --General Settings Never use real name. Never use real display pictures. Leave username blank; having a username makes you easier to identify and find. Nothing revealing in your bio. --Privacy Settings Phone number -> Nobody Last Seen & Online -> Nobody Profile Photo -> Everybody (you'll look suss without it) Forwarded Messages -> Nobody Calls -> Nobody Add to Groups -> Contacts --Security Set passcode. Set two factor authentication password. --Additional Phone Who can see it -> Nobody Who can find me via it -> Contacts (not the best but it's the best telegram will allow) --Additional Call Who can call -> Nobody Peer to Peer -> Nobody For iOS users, disable iOS call integration. Settings > privacy and security > calls > iOS call integration |

Not going to tack, the posts just get lost in the headers. Just keep it bumped.

I know you mean well, but think this stuff out. |

I don’t think “arfcom” means AR15.com to anyone but us. Probably not the best opsec but not terrible.

Encrypted messages are useless if the phone and app are unlocked if/when siezed. Same applies to Signal and other encrypted messaging apps. Keep them locked when not in use. I'm considering the account self-destruct option. If not using the app/account, why keep it around? I'm told you cannot be compelled to unlock the phone with a pin/something you know, but your fingerprint can be used to unlock devices... /Shrug I don't know but I just use a pin instead of easily used biometrics. |

Anyone else having trouble with the invite link?
Also does anyone have the invite for the Discord that was created in another post? Can’t seem to find the original post. |

One thing I will say, having been in IT for over a decade now, nothing is 100% secure. Maybe if you control the hardware, fully audited the source code, built the app from the source code, have similar security around the tools used to build the app, you might be getting into the realm of reasonably secure. We also don't know what kind of unreported zero day vulnerabilities the nation state hackers can exploit.
Also, encryption is not completely unbreakable. The security of encryption is not based on if it is unbreakable, but if it is unbreakable within a reasonable amount of time. Nation states that can afford to cluster 20000 servers to crack a single message could brute force it in a shorter amount of time. They could also know of back doors or weakness in the encryption algorithms that they keep as closely held secrets. But the more that these apps are used for everyday conversations, the more traffic it generates so that hackers don't know where they need to focus their efforts, like a needle in a hay stack. Moral of the story, many of these apps are pretty secure, but don't have a Titanic "this ship can not sink" attitude with them. |

View Quote I may have missed it, but can anyone here vouch for you? We see a brand new unpaid member, under 20 posts, showing a Colorado location, posting in the Texas forum, wanting to join various private groups, when these private groups are being set up in attempts to establish alternate and relatively secure means of communication with known individuals... I hope you understand if people give you the silent treatment. |

I was on Reddit until I got tired of supporting the website. I’ve been on Keybase since then with the 3D printing guys. I’ve just recently created an alternative community on there for here too, although only have a few members so far. |

View Quote If I had a pile of fun-money that wasn't already allocated, when the Google Pixel goes on sale, hit up Bestbuy or some place local, pay cash, then kick google out the door by installing GrapheneOS... Use free wifi someplace other than your work/home. - https://grapheneos.org/ Use cash/gift-cards to obtain SIM card. Be very conservative about application installation. Only what's necessary but include VPN with a kill-switch feature to keep your IP address on lock-down. Use browser based services to avoid adding potential vectors of compromise to your phone. Minimize your footprint. Don't install apps then use your known creds/identities or you might further comprise your privacy. Etc. |
