I remember him telling me as a kid that he was in the cavalry. He was from the Basilicata region.

far from being an expert..
all I know there were at least 4 cavalry regiments wearing that helmet... Savoia Cavalleria, Piemonte Reale, Nizza Cavalleria and Genova Cavalleria. hope its a good starting point for your research.. if you could find some insigna we could ID the exact regiment. |

Wow can't believe I missed your reply. I know of no medals or anything that he may have gotten. He and my Grandmother came from the town of Tricarico in southern Italy.
