For how long?
Ammo can tolerate high temps or low temps for some period of time. It is less tolerant of high, low, high, low... I keep mine inside. I have creates from 20 years ago that stuff still goes bang just fine when I crack into it. |

I had stuff that sat in a conex box for years out here. Still goes bang. Moisture and rapid temp changes probly do more harm.

I keep mine inside the house. However, our ammo in Iraq was stored in a metal connex that was in direct sun.

if its in the shade and you can cycle through it every 5 years, no problem. Every 10 years, maybe? 20 years, probably not...

If it's in military style ammunition canisters that have functioning seals, throw in a desiccant pack or two and it will be good for decades..

I still have over a thousand rounds (inherited over 20K) of WW2 issue M1 ammo.
It was found in my grandpa's shed, Northern Texas, and it still shoots fine. Sealed ammo will last forever. |

As long as it is secured/sealed against the elements, it should be fine for years.
I'd be more concerned about temperature cycling and basic security/theft. I bet you can find space in the back of a closet or cabinet somewhere inside your house if you really tried. |

I wouldn't, hot summer days followed by the afternoon monsoon rains.
Temp drops and moisture content goes way up equals ammo sucking nice damp air as it cools down. |

I had to move the whole ammo fort this week.
it is now sitting in the garage. 90% is in G.I. ammo cans. I estimate the total weight to be 3000 lbs. And I am moving it all the way to Tucson

I’ve had Ammo in cans in the garage for years with no issues
Some of it is 1970’s 7.62x51, and it looks brand new. Shoots like it too. Sounds like the cardboard box stuff from a couple years ago needs to be put into cans. |
