Oddly enough, when applying for a pistol permit in NYC, you will likely be denied if you are unemployed or don't have a solid source of income. They don't want unemployed people owning guns because they think they will use the gun to rob/steal.

It's not a written rule but the NYPD license division flat out told me that was their rule (I was inquiring why they needed my employers info).
