This might be a stupid question, but can I lawfully use my dog to hunt squirrels?

The PGC book says it's illegal for big game and legal for furbearers.  It is silent regarding small game.

While I've never heard of that being done, I don't think there's any reason you can't.

Really?  I thought that it was fairly common.  Steve Rinella even did an episode on it.

I've never been much of a small game hunter.  Just looking for something fun to do with the dog.   I'll probably just let her eat anything that I shoot.

I used to do a lot of small game hunting, preferred it to deer. But I was mostly focused on grouse and rabbit. I'd go squirrel hunting with a friend a fair bit, but we were using rimfires while essentially on stand so we wouldn't have wanted a dog chasing them.

That said, I could see how it could be fun. When I was a kid I used to go out hunting chipmunks with a dog...kind of. And yeah, the dog would frequently eat the chipmunks.
