I’m visiting in a few weeks is there anywhere to shoot some rifles?

It looks like it’s in the middle of the desert but it is California so I’m not sure the gun rules?

Would there be a range or just open dessert unofficial ranges?

There are some BLM restrictions in place as to areas and types of ammunition.

There are two maps linked from the BLM site.  To the extent I can tell, this map attempts to also show boundaries of some private holdings and/or other federal holdings, like 29 Palms, Fort Irwin, Edwards AFB, etc., which would also have closures, require owner permissions, etc.

This map just shows the generic boundary for Stage ii closures:

There may well be some established range facilities in the area but none that I know of.  I would expect similar ammo restrictions to avoid fire issues.

I’m headed back out there any good spots? It will likely be just 22 so I don’t think it will draw too much attention but I want to be legal

Next couple of days some chance of monsoon wetness.  But in the 100s for highs.  Might be unpleasant.

But, it's a dry heat.

The thing is, water is essential but not adequate.  You need some electrolytes as well as water.

Watered-down Gatorade, fruits, something, anything,... you've got to have it or you will sag in the heat.

Stay out of the direct sun, if you can.
