What pistols are troopers carrying these days? Policy on types of backup guns?

Shooting buddy has his application in and I'm trying to get him straight when his application is approved which I hopeful it will be.

Don’t know about SCHP but Sumter carries 320s.

Glock 17 with a 26 as backup.  They were the first LEO agency to adopt the .45gap IIRC (I think they had the G39 as backup) then switched to G22s and 27s.

Yeah my BIL was a trooper when they switched to the GAP, he loved it, said it was much softer shooting than the previous guns (G22/23 I think?) the recoil impulse was pretty much straight back with little to no muzzle flip, he retired a few years back, don’t think they had changed back to the 9mm by then.

Whoops, yeah they had the .40s first then the .45GAP.

Glock 17M
Glock 19M (special assignments)
Glock 43
Colt Commando 10.5”
Sig 400 16”
FN Patrol 16”
Remington 870 (Less Lethal)
Remington 700P

**A few MP5s (SD and K)
**Possibly a Benneli or two

-147 grain G2 9mm
-75 Grain TAP SBR
-Federal Reduced Recoil 00 Buck (now obsolete)
168 FGMM .308

SCHP might have been the first non-fed department to adopt the 17M. It was selected over the Sig 320 when the patrol switched from .45 GAP.

I think CHS and NCHS still use the Glock 21.

I guess Charleston County and Colleton County both made the swap to G45 at the same time. Still seems like a weird choice to me, either way.
