Good Morning!!

In a couple of weeks this Alabama Redneck and his family will be coming to SLC on our way to Glacier National Park. We will be coming in on I-80 from Wyoming.

I would love to have your input on "must see" and " must avoid" for the SLC area.

We're a little flexible on time. I'm not sure if we will just be stopping long enough to get a pic and bite to eat in the Great Salt Lake area, or if we need to stay overnight and explore the area more in depth.

Any help is greatly appreciated!!

Go to the Browning museum in downtown Ogden.

If you havent made the trip yet, i suggest adding antelope island to the list. Do it early in the morning. No shade. Theres lots of buffalo to see. Not many antelope lol. Then eat at mccools if you like irish pub fare. Then head to the browning museum. The railroad museum is ok if you have little kids (in the same building) but skip the car museum unless you are into 1900-1920s cars and not many

Also get your ferry tickets at glacier now if you are going to the many glacier side. The hike up to grinnel glacier.

There aren't any really bad "avoid" areas in Salt Lake. But some of less desirable. Pioneer Park downtown is drug addict, homeless and needle central. Some of West Valley City (out by 56th West and 35th South) is also questionable. But you wouldn't really be heading that way unless you intentionally chose to do so.

If you want a fun canyon drive, go up Big Cottonwood Canyon up to the Brighton parking lot. You can get out and do some short hikes if you want as well.
