He's flying out of Boston Airport to Louisiana.

Pistols will be cased, unloaded, in a TSA approved pelican case inside checked luggage.

Any issues with the Boston Airport / Boston, MA in general?

OK to have boxed ammo in the same case?
Any issues with high cap mags?

Interesting question.  I assume he is not a Mass resident?  I am a Texas resident but grew up in Mass.  Personally I would not have any firearm in Mass.  Visited my brother back in November and did not even bring a spring assisted knife.

Really interested in what the Mass guys have to say.

Does your friend have a mass LTC?  If so, no problem.

If your friend does *not* have a mass LTC, or a law enforcement credential, that person generally can't legally possess a gun in Mass, and therefore the FOPA isn't in play.

If your friend doesn't have a license, TF Green [Buddy Cianci International] is a quick drive away, as is New Hampshire.

Update from my friend:

"I flew out of -and back into- Logan with no problem after speaking with the state police office there, who confirmed that travel through the airport was covered by FOPA as far as they were concerned. Obviously I can't say that it's OK for anyone to try it, but my experience was fine at both ends, one of the easiest experiences, actually. And strangely, I wasn't asked to unlock the case at either end, nor did I have to pick up my bags from the office. FYI."
