Fun times yesterday despite the winds and heat.  The winds were strong and gusty most all day.  Congrats to Eric Z for figuring out the wind puzzle.

When we wrapped up around 1:30 it was right around 100-102 and the 15-20 MPH winds made it seem like your head was in an oven.

Changes are coming for this match.

1.  Moving to the 3rd Sunday.
2.  Noon match going away.
3.  8:30 match starting at 9:30.
4.  Round count bumping up to 56 shots.

The match will still be very focused on the fundamentals of an average RPS/NRL match.  Hopefully having everything set up by 8:00 just like we do now will allow new shooters some time to get used to how things work and verify their dope to be 100% accurate by match start time.  With 16 slots avail I expect to wrap up around 1:30-2:00.

The shooting will still be tough with 1.5-3.5 MOA sized targets.

If there are open slots left on the day before, people can opt to shoot a second gun.  But please contact me before you sign up a second gun.  If you sign up for 2 guns right off the bat, I will contact you to find out which one you want to shoot.

Here are the links to Sundays Tactical Rifle match results.

Huge thanks to everyone that came out to help set things up and especially my awesome Assistant Match Director Justin that continues to put up with my shit.  We were done in record time and ready to go early.  For a late July match the weather was awesome.  Low to mid 90s and dead calm winds for most of the match.

Scoring... dont forget, misses are misses.  Dont give someone a procedural for a miss.

Sign up for next months matches open up in a few days at midnight. The 600 yard match changes to 56 rounds from 40 and starts at 9:30
instead of 8:30 to give new shooters time to get comfortable with things and it also moves to Sunday.

For the annual AK vs AR match this year I am thinking about mixing it up a little if there is enough demand.

How about 2 person teams?  One shooter shoots the typical AR-15 / AR-10 and the other shooter shoots some sort of commie gun with irons or a non-magnified dot.
Our definition of commie gun is pretty wide open and includes SKS, FAL, Garand, M1A.  Yes, I know that including the FAL/Garand ect in the commie gun column
makes your head hurt.  The goal is to get people out shooting rifles other than the usual AR to learn the strengths and shortcomings of the various rifles.

If you are interested, please let me know ASAP and I will go forward with the plan and order plaques that even Eddie Rhodes would approve of.

Any of these so called commie guns for rent?

And the August 600 yard precision match is in the books.  https://practiscore.com/results/html/609dfac2-8d96-4b07-b1f8-4b1eb2098147?page=overall-combined

The new format worked well.  It took a string or two but we think we have settled on 75 seconds (prone) and 100 seconds (positional) for each string of 7 shots.

Having the targets avail for new shooters to get used to PRS/NRL type shooting for 90 minutes is a huge plus.  That makes this a relatively new shooter friendly PRS match.  The targets are still small, but thats the challenge.

And people got to learn some things on how to speed up and be more efficient while engaging targets at different distances.  So that was a win.

We had a pretty good showing despite the forecast temps.  Along with the forecast temps we also had a lot of no-shows...

We had a really good set up crew and it went very smooth as did tear down.  Thanks to everyone that helps make these matches happen.

I still have a few open slots in this Saturdays rimfire matches.  The prone match is full, but the noon PRS has a few openings.  Hope to see
you there.

All of Septembers matches will be avail for sign up just after midnight.  Lots of people are wanting to shoot the AK vs AR match this
year.  Dont drag your feet.

AK vs AR details.

You do not have to have a teammate to shoot the match. You can shoot your normal rifle or pick a commie gun of whatever flavor you want.

If you are shooting in the Team Match...

One of the team members must shoot a non AR-15 rifle.

One of the two rifles must have irons sights or a non-magnified optic, which is a hard way of saying dot.

Farthest target will be 200 yards and it will be a full sized steel IPSC and a 14 inch diamond.

Steel core ammo is allowed at this match and only this match. All other matches it is specifically NOT allowed.

Both shooters must let match staff know who the team members are.

Scores (match points) from both shooters will be combined to establish Team score.

Plaques for 1st thru 3rd place teams will be handed out following tear down of the noon match.

Sign up opens up on 01 Sept. Dont drag your feet.

If you sign up, please show up.

We had a lot of people show up yesterday for the rimfire matches.  A couple wife/husband combos and father/son combos.  Very cool to see.
Congrats to Scotty for a killer showing of 92 points, missing only two targets.  Might be a new record.

For the PRS match, one shooter found out you can go from 9 points to zero points by shooting the hostage at 100 yards...

Please remember, without help matches cant continue.  Consider waking up a little early to help set things up.  It was a little lonely yesterday morning.

I still have a few slots left for the noon AK vs AR match.

If this is your first rifle-only match, it is a good choice.  The targets are bigger and closer.  The far target is 200 yards and its about 18x24.

And there is some room for the noon Tactical Rifle match on the 27th.

Pay close attention to the results.  Mary Beth got her new batch of 6.5 Creed ammo from Prime and she kicked some serious butt with it. And she shot both the positions of the day straight up, one bag and her gun.

Thank you to Gary Dean for all the help he has given all our matches these past years.  I could not have asked for a better Assistant Match Director.  Not only did he cover for me when Uncle Sam had me out of town, but he kept me from doing stupid things.  Without Dino, these matches would never had happened.

We had a ton of people show up early to help get this match set up in record time.  I cant say thank you enough to everyone for making this match happen.  We were shooting the morning match at 9:00 and done by 11:15.  We got things swapped order to the PRS match and spend a few minutes checking zeros now that the temp had come up to about 50.

Mary Beth and her Vudoo absolutely smashed the morning match.  Way to go girl.

The next rimfire match day is 23 Feb.  Be sure to get signed up on 01 Feb as today was again sold out.  In March the 4th Sunday reverts back to Tactical Rifle and we will shoot rimfire when there is a 5th weekend.

It was nice to get back out there and see everyone yesterday.  We had several people show up early to be sure set up went smooth.  We were checking zeros at 8:00.  Huge thanks to everyone that comes out early to make sure we can all shoot.

George came up with the position of the day and it was tough for sure, but not impossible.  The new AA Targets Wind Doping Target worked flawless.  We will be shooting it more often.

Special thanks to Zach who did all the spotting for us yesterday while MB kicked butt.

My new Terminus Action 223 Ackley built by Fritz at Black Canyon Rifles seems to be working out better than I hoped.

See some of you next Sunday for Tactical Rifle and/or Wednesday afternoon steel.
