Has anyone been through the process of appealing their property tax assessment, especially in Jackson County?  We bought a house here last year and the property tax went up 60% with an assessment increase of 25%.  The assessment increase is likely based exactly on the price we paid for the home.

The increase also reflects the current market.  It is definitely a seller's market in some places.

We overpaid for a place in Ellijay in 2018.  This year the FMV went up $45k on our tax notice.

This is actually about accurate for the current market in LJ.

Meanwhile down in SW GA, our property values are decreasing, but our tax appraisals are not.

Count your blessings.

I’m fairly sure they always go by sales price for the first year. It will be hard to appeal a house being worth less than you paid for it in today market.

Don't know that much about the best way to go about it. Just relating what I would do or have done.

If the house was appraised recently and the tax bill showed a higher value than the appraisal I would base an appeal on it and surrounding recent comparable sells that were showing a lesser value. If not no idea what I would do.
I have appealed mine twice and got a little taken off each time but none of my neighbors have so I am sitting in the cheapest one on the map in my neighborhood now.  I am kind of stuck with nothing left to base an appeal on unless sell prices change in the future.
