Hi Guys,

I am asking this question for a friend on the other side of the fence.   Seems like there is very little information out there on how to become a gunsmith in Canada/Ontario, what's the process or the obstacles with becoming one?

On the US side it's pretty clear and forward.

Any ideas?

He will probably have to get a business license from the RCMP/CFC.

last time I talked to a gunsmith there was no regulations regarding it..but he should be able to find out all he needs via google.
there will be regulations, rules, laws, paperwork up the wazoo to legally open his business.

That's exactly the problem, there is almost no info regarding to set one up.

And no one knows other than "there will be regulations, rules, laws, paperwork up the wazoo to legally open his business.", no specifics.  It's either that it's very complicated or tedious that people generally do not know, or it's a secret being kept close by the few existing gun smiths.

I wouldn't be surprised if the licensing, certification, etc falls under provincial jurisdiction. His Chief Firearms Officer might be the place to start.
