I’m looking for some information about Prescott. Like, areas to live and not to live? Areas with trees? Are there multiple health networks, and if so, which is the best? What about high speed internet, who’s the best? Where to buy my guns? Where to shoot? Can I have a Trump flag and not get vandalized?

Does Prescott have any local tv news? Much appreciated.

If I have a CCW for Arizona (which I do) can I just walk into a store and walk out with all the guns I’ve been deprived of here in Suckifornia? Or is there a wait? Thanks.

Actually... i think in Prescott your more likely to get vandalized for NOT having a Trump flag.

*disclaimer, i dont live there*

Prescott goes from grasslands up to ponderosa pine forest depending on where you are.. its kinda cool... you can pick.

I dont know the best place to get guns.. but I will say this, you got choices(its this way in the whole state).  Ruger has a plant there, and J&G is based out of there among some other larger name firearms related things.

And yes.. with or without CCW you can walk into a store, buy and walk out with it.. CCW just makes it faster as they dont do an instant background check.  Just get your AZDL the second you get here.

As for shooting, just get a map and find a safe spot of BLM or National Forest and have at it... state trust land is a no go for recreational shooting(hunting is ok), and we do have a month or so where they usually prohibit shooting in some national forests due to fire hazard between spring and the first few big monsoon storms.

I live northeast of Prescott Valley along 89A on the way to Jerome.  Been here 11 years, from SE Michigan.

This is a great place to live though we have had a huge influx in the past few years.  You have, generally, Prescott, Prescott Valley, Chino Valley just to the north of Prescott and Dewey-Humboldt to the SE of Prescott Valley.

There are flatlands, hills and woods around.  I live on 12 wooded acres, thank God, but there are all kinds of subs around.  It's a big area.

In Prescott proper you will find some Bernie types, green Subarus and Teslas, but the county went 72% Republican last election.

Gunshops everywhere.  There are 2 indoor ranges, an outdoor range in Chino and zillions of places in the desert.  Shooting in the forest during wildfire season is a no.  With an AZ CCW you can walk into a gunshop and walk out with your purchase.

You still see open carry around and it is common enough to be unnoticed.  Unless you're new from a socialist state.

There are more doctors and facilities as there are more of us old folks here.  There are 2 hospitals run by Dignity Health.  I've not needed to go south to the valley (Phoenix) for anything.  In fact, I detest going to the valley.

Infrastructure like roads and shopping have not kept pace with population.  Water will be a concern at some point.

Crime is low.  In 2021 in Yavapai county there were 6 homicides.  In Detroit that was a holiday weekend.

People are friendly and local merchants/workmen will do you right if you you treat them well.  The California Effect is a thing here.  Many new transplants come here with their inner asshole in full bloom, and they do not thrive here.  Manners are always welcome.

You should find a good local realtor and come look around.  I did, and stayed.

I  live in the Phoenix metro area and Prescott is one of the places we like to visit to get out of the valley.   There are lots of options on places to live.  We typically rent a place in the pines that is more like a cabin, including dirt roads.  The homes are just far enough apart to have some privacy.

Last time we were up we rented a side by side and spent 5 hours driving though the pines.  Was great.  You can go on trails from Prescott all the way down to Crown King.

As far as gun shops go, lots of options.  I typically take half a day and visit all the gun shops in Prescott and Prescott Valley.  Lots of small gun shops and reasonable pricing on common guns. J&G used to be the best for selection and pricing 20 years ago, but not anymore.

The area has really grown over the past 25 years and traffic has gotten a lot worse.

My wife likes Scottsdale, I like Prescott. It reminds me a lot of my home, Spokane. I’m going to win this one. Thanks for the info. I’m really looking forward to getting out of California.

Pretty much everything has been covered except your healthcare question.  Prescott has two hospitals, both owned by Dignity.  Specialties may involve a visit to Phoenix.  Dignity is currently in a dispute with Blue Cross Blue Shield, and does not consider them in network for insurance, which has caused issues for many.

Take her to Scottsdale in July or August and see if she still likes it.

Keep in mind this is not unique to Prescott region- due to the large influx of ( mostly older retiree age) people here, our heath system is a bit strained, and finding a primary and if you need it specialist can be difficult. I suggest planning before you come, especially if you have issues requiring specialized care, as we are simply NOT going to have a lot of options like big metro areas do.

I work in health care, and when I used to practice in an urgent care, I would see tons of people who moved, with no plan to obtain primary care, figuring they could call any doctors office and get in promptly when prescriptions ran out. Then when the run low on medications, start calling primaries to find there are only a few accepting new patients, and a new patient visit appointment is 4 months out. They would show up recurrently to urgent care to get RX refills and they couldn’t get into a primary.

Also lots of whining from mostly Californians ( ditch the CA plates as soon as you move- anybody from CA is considered a leftist jack ass hell bent on destroying AZ until proven otherwise) who lived in big metro areas, and were used to big medical complexes with multiple specialists and also multiple choices in specialists. In a region the size of Prescott, you may only have a single choice in some specialties and for some odd ball stuff may indeed need to travel to “ the valley “ - Phoenix.

We are definitely a gun owners paradise, one gun shop owner told me, and I have no reason to doubt him, that our county has more FFL’s than any other county in the nation. Between the “quad cities” ( Prescott, Prescott valley, chino valley and Dewey) there are at least a dozen brick and mortar gun shops.

In regards  to shooting I am a member of a private club yavapai recreation league, with a great range complex south of Prescott. We host several major events every year ( state or regional uspsa or steel challenge championships) while our membership is currently closed, we allow / encourage nonmembers to shoot any of our competitions

If you end up here, welcome!

Also I am a member of the Prescott Valley VFW post 10227- great place if you are an eligible veteran we would like to have you. Also ALL our meals and most of our post events are open to the public - lunch serve Monday to Thursday and dinner’s Friday night

Whatever you do, please do not drive like you do in CA, and treat our forests with respect, no trash left behind from shooting and no chances of starting a forest fire.

We are booming and the influx of idiots driving like fucktards are showing. To prove a point, been here for ten years. We may have had a serious incident report about a fatality on the road maybe once every two or three months. Now it's weekly. Impatient drivers driving recklessly is almost always the root cause. You can tell the locals, they stop and wait without a rush to cut others off.

Lots of gun shops, a bunch of class 3 dealers too. Definitely some good eats. Colt's BBQ for the win.

J&G last I knew, was charging like cheaper than platinum. They may have changed post the paranoia dumpster fire years. Before all of that nonsense, I could walk in and for under $100 buy a 500 round case of whatever Brown Bear steel cased I wanted, same for Wolf steel cased. Federal HST's and Speer GD's in any flavor 50 round boxes were less than $20 per.

I suggest highly to visit the area first. We love our town and the surrounding areas, the square is like something out of the 50's, clean and neat plus Whiskery Row is right there if you need some nightlife living. It's not much, but it's there.

We're coming into fire season and it's a very real thing to be aware of and conscious of the things you do, to do your part in fire prevention.

Paulden is where Gunsite is if you like to train, Wilhoit is Prescott Action Shooters if you like to compete using that training but is a two year wait list to join and get the keys to use their ranges. Probably worth it as it's nice with a ton of bays ands steel to do whatever with paint always nearby to redo before leaving.

Lastly, we are not CA!! People say that they want to escape from such an such and only vote red, then go off and vote for the same things that turned it into the CA it is today. Our last couple of elections is proof that these escapees are either RINO's, lolberts, or AINO's. Not saying that you are but we are aware of things and we are not happy. But if none of this applies to you, then welcome.

Agree with Arizona rifleman

Although ammo prices have escalated greatly since he last bought ammo apparently!

From what I can see/ tell, ammo prices in a lot of other areas in the country have decreased more than here. While friends back east are telling me 9mm ball is $12 on the shelf regularly here the best over the counter price I have seen is 15. I did buy a case of S&B at J&G recently and it was 13.50 a box when bough by the case lot.

I think we have perhaps more demand than other areas, and I can’t fault brick and mortar independent gun shops that have to charge more due to overhead and lower quantities they stock. But the only 2 bigger stores we have that stock ammo are sportsman’s warehouse and cal ranch. Not a lot of big store competitors here. Oddly enough, I always have found cal ranch ( which has gun stuff as only a relative small segment of the total business) a bit cheaper than sportsman’s where guns and ammo are a primary product line. For me cal seems to have 22 ammo about $1/50 and 9mm $2-3/50 less than sportsman’s

@Antero

If you want local to the area no nonsense news, like and follow the YSCO's facebook, same for Prescott, Prescott valley PD, Chino valley PD, etc. The local area groups like everywhere else in the states, start off well intentioned but end up being thunder-domes more or less. Even the foodie groups

I don’t have any super specific info, but after spending a week in Prescott recently, I really really liked it.

Health care in the Prescott area stinks.
And anyways, Prescott is full.
Sorry Charlie.
