The republicans in the state legislature are trying to raise taxes again.  They took this tax increase off the calendar last week but now it seems they're going to bring it up again.  

They want to impose a property tax on Wayne and Oakland counties to fund two museums in Detroit: the african American history museum and the Detroit Historical museum.
If you live elsewhere, it's still in your interest to defeat this tax.  If they can get away with fleecing Wayne and Oakland counties, they'll find a reason to impose a similar tax on you.

Taxes piss me off, we're already paying enough.  I think it's the african American history museum that has a current budget of about 10 million and is supposed to receive 36 million from this tax.  I can just imagine the waste.

republicans raised our taxes to 'fix the roads' and made the gas tax a percentage instead of a fixed amount.  So rising gas prices are rising even faster as the tax increases.  The roads around here are just as bad as ever so we pay more and get nothing.

My sister lives in Oakland and hates that tax. IIRC voters originally voted the tax upon themselves in a ballot initiative. Signed the petition when she sent it to me.
