Difficult Run is calling, so let's mix things up a bit.

New step off location is at the Difficult Run Pump station.  There's a public parking lot on Colvin Run Rd (PM me for coordinates).

The majority of this hike is unpaved and has several water crossings.  Be prepared for mud & bugs.

This is a low-profile hike.  With daylight savings time, Karens will be around.  That combined with the new step off location, no long guns or battle rattle.  Feel free to sport helmets and NODs.

Standard boilerplate follows;
PM me if you need directions to the step off point.
Step off will be at dusk, so bring a head lamp or flashlight if you're scared of the dark.  NODs are always in season.
Leashed K9's are welcome.  We will see deer and other critters so use your judgement.
Wear good boots / socks.
Bring water.
Return trip will be in the dark.  Bring lighting of your choice.
PM me if you want off the notifications list.

@mbg0001

The new stroll sounds great!

However, I stupidly volunteered for night shift
early last week (5pm-1am) because no one else
would.  Something about diesel generators, Dominion
Power, daytime restrictions and EPA/Commonwealth
fines, but I tuned out because the topic was boring.

I appreciate you keeping me in the mentions.

One evening I'm going to bring one or more of my children.

Enjoy the new trail!

Bump.

It's going to rain for most of tomorrow. The muddy portion of the trail is up front, so if it looks too bad, we have a couple options to the south.

I screwed something up doing deadlifts.  I was able to ruck, with a light weight, yesterday but was in pain by three miles and called it.

If a paved/gravel is selected,  I’ll likely do half out, half back.  All depends on how I feel.

@mbg0001 -  I’m going to pass tonight and do a loop near home that allows me to bail if necessary.  Six miles is likely a tad much until I’m repaired.

Holy smokes.  Completely slipped my mind. This short week has thrown me off.

How muddy was the new route?

Probably for the best.  It's unpaved with multiple sections you really need to watch your feet.

Like the other dirt trail we had, sections were bogged down, but usually had dry paths that looped around the puddles.  Much less ambient light on this trail, so harder to pick out the mud puddles in the dark.

I would actually recommend doing this trail in the daytime first, to familiarize the lay of the land and the different sections.  There's a section of the Potomac Heritage Trail I want to put in rotation, that should also have daytime familiarization hikes first.
