Is there anyone in this area willing to mentor someone with no experience?

I have my ham license. Not sure if be very good at teaching anyone. I just studied the hectic test on qrz.com and then took the test. The actual questions are on qrz. I'm thinking about studying up and getting my general so I can start doing some HF stuff. Ham is not a hobby for me. Only reason I got involved is in case something happens and cell phones go down, I have some means of communication.

I'm kinda in the same boat.
I ordered some Boafengs and a study guide. I figure I could probably pass the test with a lot of study, but if I dont have anyone to "mentor" me I will probably lose the skill. I'm in Huntsville (South Huntsville) |

Ive got my General but I have yet to get a HF radio. JustVHF/UHF right now.
Its on the list of things to get. Just havent got there yet |

Eham.net has a lot of great resources as well as practice tests.
I spent a night taking practice tests and got my tech, took the general and failed by two. If you pass the tech they let you take the next one for free. Haven't really done much with it, I'm ashamed to say. Thanks for the reminder. |

Can you take the test and get licensed online now? I found a testing location in jasper. I need to get this done as well.

If someone would teach a class/overview I got two for sure who would attend. On a Saturday.
I can arrange for a classroom setting in central AL. Maybe a slight fee for the room. ETA: So I made a contact through one of the existing training providers many of you are familiar with. We are working on getting this put together. As soon as we get something I will let you know. |

I used HamSudy to get my license. Passed tech and general on first try. Picked up my extra about 6 weeks later. Because there is so much interference where I live, I haven't done anything with it. I could use a refresher.
